well,g story as short as i can put it. once i had the goslings it was lateish summer, and more then warm enough for them outside. but we never thought about the puppies interferring with them. i didnt think about it at all ad felt so horrible i didn't want to tell anyone. thats why you guys never saw any pictures. i still feel like a horrible mama and will forever. guess you could say i have bad luck with geese.

but i didnt gie up on geese. i still wanted some soooooo bad. i wanted to order some, but they were all sold out where i wanted them. so i waited for craigslist. my mom found a lady and traded a puppy for some bunnies AND! a pair of american geese. not only the breed i wanted, but they wre blue and lavender!!!!!!

the lav is a boy, and the blue is a girl. they should be laying soon i hope.

Aww DG. Things happen.

Congrats on the new geese. There's supposed to be a bullseye, with a white ring around it if they are fertile. But I can't tell the difference, they all look fertile to me when I try that method.

I had an itty bitty dog that killed one of my ducklings. It tried it's best to get more too. At that time, I only had the dog for a few weeks and the birds for quite a bit longer, had a new baby and no time, so the doggie found a new home. I thought our dog we had now was going to be horrible with them too, but she's actually turned out not so bad.

Fertile to non fertile eggs are really easy to tell (I cracke'm in a bright white bowl), I usually crack 2-5 eggs ~yeppers fertility omelet~ before I set some. I cracked my ohikis & brahmas & they were all fertile, before I set my 1st ones, I am setting them all now.

I see growth around 9 days & will toss all clears on day 11

I think I am going to be the last one to get a goose egg

perhaps you wont be last, this is my geese first year.

do geese claim things? like to be theirs? cause now that i have them no one is allowd near the chicken coop or the kiddie pool, not even the ducks!

(oh and please excused my mispelling, im on a tablet and i cant type right)

Now that Iain knows.......... I shall give my big news of the day.......

Sorry about your geese. I hear about people losing birds all of the time to their own dogs. It happens. Hope you have better luck with your new pair!!

for your sebbies to start laying! At least you have 60 goose eggs in your bator!

You all will be the 1st to know

I have done the stare down wiggle test, the tap test, the heat test.....
barnie.gif
How just the hatch test alrready !!!

I have been told they can go up to 60 days. So by NEXT WED ~ Really ?!?
(sorry about my impatience, but this literally has been the longest incubation EVER
he.gif
)

Well hope all your hatches are going great & look forward to fluffy butt pics !
caf.gif
it's all good i get impatient about 10 days into setting duck eggs lol
So in the meantime, just replanted my pond area & today we are putting up our last poultry run ~ 16' wide by 110' long. So now I have 5 large runs, to rotate them through & behind them run our pot bellied pigs (great little rototillers) then reseed & repeat !!!
cool! i really want to get pigs but i will have to wait until at least next year, because i am already getting goats this year along with restarting my flock
Very cool, RG.

for emu babies to get here soon!

I saw my laying brown African mating with my white gander today... so I pulled my bator out and turned it on. Hoping she lays again tomorrow so I will have 2 fresh eggs to set. I have my doubts about the egg I found in nest, since it was exposed to freezing overnight temps, but I'll set it too. If fertilized by the white, the babies would be color sex linked.

My goose laid an egg today! And I got a duck egg, and 4 chicken eggs. 7 eggs in one day is the most I've got for a LONG time lol. Now to get those goose eggs fertile!
Yes!
I love him too. He's just "on loan". Although if he stays as sweet as he is once they've settled in, and I don't hatch the gander I want from my goose eggs coming for my project then his stay may become permanent, lol. I had to laugh at him today. I went outside and the geese and ducks came running like normal hoping for goodies. He looked at them for a minute, then me, then came running with his wings out too. He's trying so hard to fit in and be one of the group.
I think it's amazing they are hatching so well at that temp. Guess it goes to prove it's more the temp being steady and not swinging than it being exactly what's recommended. So crossing my fingers for a good hatch for you with those emus! Tell them to hurry though, my fingers are getting cramped, lmbo.
Hurray pip! Get a move on little ducklings.
I'm so happy to see all the incubator's being fired up around here!
yay for the eggs! i think i am going to pull my bator out today and warm it up so i will have it all set for eggs soon
smile.png

My bad I mean it is running at 97.5 ~ I hatched 6 out of 7 Brahma eggs just recently, and I hatched 4 ducklings, and also set 5 Ohikis & all 5 are developing
woot.gif

I was told as long as you keep a staedy temp & humidity, it will not affect your hatch rate. ~ Only how long the incubation is ~ like it takes 25-28 days to hatch a chicken, and 32-36 days to hatch a duck.
thumbsup.gif
good hatches and good to know about the temp
Yes but it is still frustrating, until you hear a chirp, scratching, etc. You really never know. Like they say "If you stare at an egg long enough ~ you will see it wiggle"
lau.gif

Thanks! YAY Bators are cookin!!!! Have you cracked any of the eggs for eating to see if they are fertile?

(except the random one here and there)
Soon we will all be getting layed .....eggs
gig.gif
i will have to buy mine for a while, but hopefully it sticks this year and i will have eggs by summer
Yes he is.
love.gif
I just wish it was nice outside so I could be out there getting to know him better.
roll.png
That's not going to happen for a little bit apparently.
That's good to know. Not that I want to make them take longer (i'd prefer shorter times!) or hatch any emu's, but you never know. Just in case.
wink.png

yuckyuck.gif

I don't have to buy any, lol. That doesn't mean that I won't buy any though.
lau.gif
I detest shopping, but egg shopping is so much fun for some reason.
i love window shopping for eggs, and online shopping
gig.gif

RG, as of today, I only have the 2 eggs from the pasture and pretty sure one got frozen and probably won't develop. I hope the brown girl will lay again tomorrow and will check fertility by setting them.
smile.png
fl.gif

They're still keeping me waiting. Silly little birdies.
caf.gif

Did you do the cross your eyes and wiggle your toes test yet? I would never be able to wait 60 days for a hatch day!
Sweetness!
Hooray for Ohikis!

Can someone remind me about how soon you can see development after setting eggs? Running a fert test and if they're no good, I'd rather shut off the bator for a week and try again.
gig.gif
60 days would probably kill me lock down is hard enough for me!
Now that Iain knows.......... I shall give my big news of the day.......
