Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Ok, Still I never asked before but will now. What are the time lines you go off of for hatching? As in how many days for chicken, duck, goose? Also what do you call day 1? You are running a still air around 100-101 normally right?

Wow, you'd better ask Celctic about this. I' have never in all these years had anything hatch a week early. Are these shipped or local eggs? If local, maybe you lucked out and got some started, but didn't die in the trip over& into your bator. Otherwise, I can't conveive of an explanation for this.

all shipped eggs. The VERY first batch I had the hatched and live was almost week and half early. We think the lady had her hens sitting on them before she sent them to me,

Marty, I don't keep babies in the house past 48 hours old, lol. However we have the brooder house so they are well protected.
Iain, I did see that picture this morning, very cute they are camped out now. I would say if hubby will build another outdoor playpen for the goslings put them out during the day, but put a low watt heat lamp in the structure so they can easily warm back up if chilled.
Still, it is normal for a spot of blood when a chick is pipping as they can sometimes hit a vessel. Just keep an eye on them. Sounds like they are very strong and will be zipping soon.

Lucky you! I'm thinking we may have to build a brooder house. I'm not a fan of them in my house, but I have a cross gabled house, and every room has three walls of windows, which aids considerable in keeping only that room smelling like babies. I wish my barn were a bit tighter, but I don't want to mess up its historical integrity, so I have to just leave it alone. DH has offered to clean out the office room in the garage for me. It has its own door out, but no water. I'm pretty sure I'll have to move though, I'm gonna be full up come easter, and everyone will need their own brooder. ('well, ducks with ducks, chicks w/chicks, geese w/geese, quails, pheasants, and turkeys)

they totaly hurt my feelings i mean come on i spent 2 days helping you guys hatch and they are scared of me.
like really? did you imprint on a **** egg instead of me. how much closer to a mommy can you get!!

ok. that was my rant for the night lol.

i feel the same way about mine they are still scared poop-less of me!

I have one egg that looks like that, too. How often should you look at it? You don't want to open the incubator too often and drop the humidity, right?

I'm having trouble getting my pics to upload, but here's a couple that I managed to get to work. How do they look?

my last batch of eggs were all like that, 2 hatched in their own, and i had to assist the other 2! good luck

LoL Bakin, our day starts at 0430/0500 weeks days here so I was coffee in and going strong already. Sun is out now though, love the early rain for the plants then sun when I am busy to keep me motivated.

Celtic, I will make sure we set up a heat lamp in outdoor pen for them. Guess I may as well feed/water the adults over here since they seem intent on staying close until we give them their babies. I am finding it amazing to observe geese behavior. I understand gregariousness, but have not witnessed this strong parental instinct in a species before. The only species I knew about before now that adopts orphaned babies are deer.

running a still are LG, temps steady at 101, humidity 55 now 65
If I set the eggs after 4:00, I do not count that day ,the next day would be day.
Chickens (hatch bantams only) hatch time is 21 days.
Ducks hatch 28 days
Geese 28 to 32 days,

Marty, can you build a room inside the barn? This way you don't bother the exterior and have a safe place to brood as well.

I can build a free standing room. It used to have a tack room, but its lost to the ages. I can do anything that doesn't change the structure of the building, or disrupt historic integrity. (Not that the state histroic folks would notice anytime soon).

Wow SM. My day 21 anconas and silver apple are rocking now... so that means they are turning... which makes them on schedule to hatch late day 27 like my others have. Seems like mine all want to mostly hatch on day 27 with a couple of stragglers on day 28. However, when they do hatch, they are usually dry and not attached to anything. I run my bator at 101 too, but keep my humidity between 45-50%.
