Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Great!

I'm gonna try to get more Java eggs, and some buttercups this winter. Otherwise, I don't think I'll hatch many chickens. I'll be (sigh) having to plug in soon, to test out the ancona eggs. Of course, with half and half boys and girls, no need to doubt them too much. LOL Will also be wanting to test the geese as they start laying. I don't want to sell any eggs that are from geese too young to mate well. I'm sure the africans will be ok, and probobly the sebbies, but I'm not sure about the toulouse. From what I've read, some are ok the first year, and others are just too young still. It would be nice of them all to at least pay for their own food with egg money.

amen to food bill!
You have buff and grey Tolouse dont you?

Chicks, how old are your Mandies? Ours are all sorts of frisky and we had to break up a fight in a pen we hadnt planned to split up yet, but now have to. We are putting nest boxes back in this weekend since they are showing such strong urges already.
they will be 2 years old all have paired up and are sitting on there nest boxs

yep, always worth finding out now and being prepared.

Chicks by the way I forgot to say your pictures are lovely.
Thank you I love them they are one of my Fav ducks. I can't wait to see there babies hatch out! I have only Heard of one person getting there mandarins to lay year around but if you do they will run out of eggs at a younger age so if they have enough eggs for 7 years you would cut this in half so 3.5 years of laying 24/7 this is what I was told but I’m not going to say they no what there doing.

Quote: Yes. I have only one pair of the grey dewlap toulouse, and two pairs of buff dewlap toulouse. :D They are so sweet and friendly and lovely. I'm in love with every single one of my geese. If put to a choice, I'd keep the geese over everything else at this point. However, I love ducks and turkeys a lot too. Today I got my first trio of muscoveys from Celtic. AND BOTH of them laid eggs, really big eggs for their size.

You have to show us lots of baby pics! I love these guys, am already thinking of cutting down on the chickens and getting more ornamental waterfowl instead. Prettier, less messy, quieter. I want more. And some geese, cacklers or bar headed I think.
