I recently bought 5 birds from a local farm store. They are about 5 weeks old. They are supposed to be "sexed" as pullets.

One I have felt was a rooster since day one and is developing a comb and wattles before any of the others. This is a cuckoo maran.

One other doesn't have the same signs, but carries itself in a similar way. It is a barred rock.

What does the hive mind think?

1st bird looks to be a cuckoo maran. Has white shanks, while barred rocks have yellow shanks.

That should be correect.

The first one, Spot, with the large comb, was bought as a cuckoo maran. I'm guessing, sadly, that he is indeed a he.

The second bird, Zucchini, without the large comb, was purchased as a barred rock. That one was more of a question mark to me. No comb, but I do notice that it carries itself a little higher like the cuckoo maran and also thought the tail feathers looked a little suspect.
