Thanks, Gator. I think I will do that.

Gump, my brain really isn't working right. I know what all you've been through since I have read your thread (do need to catch up on it though, sorry) and I know that it happened b/c you brought in a chick that carried disease but I didn't put two and two together. I am so glad you mentioned it!! Like I said, I still have foggy brain and am just trying to figure out the best hting to do.

But since Kitty brought up her friends chick (thanks for that!!

) that was fine on it's own, I guess I will just raise it as the "Lone Ranger"

.
Maybe it will get attached to me!

My three RIRs hate me. We bought them as 3 day olds (I think).... lol.

I wouldn't say that your RIR's hate you! It's just the breed. Mine like to hang around and don't mind me looking at them, but forget me trying to touch or pick them up! Those unsocial little ingrates. Just kidding! It just the RIR's nature.

I really am just trying to protect your flock and yourself from an unseen misfortune. Is there a chance that the craigslist chicks would be healthy? Sure there is, but you just can't tell for sure just by looking at them or their environment. Many birds can carry many different illnesses and not show it. It's just safer to steer clear unless you are planning to quarantine, which doesn't give you any immediate help. Put some stuffing in a sock and make a sock buddy for your baby like Kitty suggested. At least you'll know that it won't be carrying any diseases! You also still stand a good chance of more hatching. Sit tight!

OH MY GOD
I picked one egg up to candle it and it peeped and I heard it peck at the shell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I about passed out!

How do I know if it is stuck?? I heard it pecking against the shell so I quickly put it back. That was the first one I picked up-- I wonder if there's others that are still alive.... This is awesome! I will be so happy if more hatch!

GK-If they are anything like mine, you should find more activity when you get back. Mine like to wait until I'm either milking cows or gone to hatch!

Now..see there...all is NOT lost!! They'll get that shell pipped. When you get back, check them again and make sure they're still talking to you. They have plenty of air to breathe in the aircell...the egg is still "breathing" through it's pores.
