Porcelain D'uccles are so pretty - used to have a roo but had to rehome him. Now I just have mille fleur hens. They are a goofy breed to say the least.

i wish i got some eggs out of my d'uccle before i lost her. i'd love to get some again. but i think i'm going to stick with my bantam faverolles for breeding and keep the LF brahmas for their eggs.

i can't wait to see the chicks out of a ee/brahma cross-lots of beards with feather feet and sweet little combs! which color brahma do you have?

i LOVE my millie pair. I have a 2 year old rooster named cesar and a year old hen named amy, he just recently took a liking to her and i have 6 of her eggs in the incubator with my other light Sussex eggs. I'm very excited for her egg's. I also hatched out 5 other millies from a seller here on BYC and they are about 7 weeks old now...3 pullet's and 2 cockeral's.

Chickie'sMoma :

how loud would you say the d'uccle roosters are when they crow? are they any louder or softer sounding than most breeds?

well my boy can get pritty piercing at times. Since they are smaller their crow is more concentrated than standard size roo's. I would say they have a slightly shorter but more high pitched crow. Standards are usually longer and they bellow a lot deeper.

I finally got my temp back up to where it was before I put the eggs in. It dropped to 94 and I slowly kept increasing it until it was back up to 100. Is it normal for it to drop like that when putting the eggs in? I figured it would take a while for it to warm back up with a virtually empty bator vs a half-full bator but I didn't think I would have to turn it up to getting back into range.

it is normal to have a temp drop in the bators when opening them. the humidity may jump too. that is why the last few days you don't want to open it up while the chicks are still hatching out and absorbing the yolk. the change in temp/humidity and pressure could stop them from hatching.

usually you shouldn't mess with the temp if it was holding at around 99 deg before you put the eggs in. you just need to let it come back up to temp on it's own gradually. that way you don't have to worry about moving it up and down to get it right again.

I cant join in the hatch but i cannn.....!

Lets watch the chickies hatchh

I snuck two olive eggs and 4 more EE eggs in today. The EE eggs are often duds. I have only hatched two chicks from her in nearly two years. Nice birds when they hatch though. The olive eggs are from her daughter. So that is 15 eggs total plus the 28 due this week and two that are due next week. I need a farm.

Agreed - mine were way higher pitched whereas my black copper roo sounds like an owl.
