You put Blue-kote on her butt, didn't you? The stuff comes off on eggs as they're being laid.

Weird update! On my way home to check her out, but the boyf sent me a pic of the very strange egg she laid. What is this all about? Middle one, obviously.View attachment 1677698
X2 on the Blu Kote LOL That's what happens when you paint the behind. You may get eggs with a Blu streak for a few more days, but it's nothing to worry about. You put Blue-kote on her butt, didn't you? The stuff comes off on eggs as they're being laid.
Yes hahaha I got home and actually looked at it and it is totally blue kote. So she’s laying, is the good news! But the belly is still red and swollen, so I’m not quite sure where to go from here other than cutting out treats and keeping an eye on her. If she starts to act sick in any way I’ll call an avian vet, but I think I’m going to give it at least a few days to see if it potentially goes away on its own. Which makes me feel kinda neglectful, but I’m not really sure what else to do.You put Blue-kote on her butt, didn't you? The stuff comes off on eggs as they're being laid.
Nah...it was just from her rubbing her butt on the egg after it was laid in the nest.I would just like to add a comment here that the egg above illustrates rather well.
It should be apparent from the egg picture that any ointment, cleaning fluid, etc, can easily make it's way into the vent and possibly from there into the oviduct.
My preference when cleaning the vent area is to use boiled water allowed to cool, or ph neutral water from an ampule.
It looked like creepy red scratches to me in the picture and my first thought was that I was going to have to hire an exorcist for my haunted chicken.Yeah, the blue marks on the egg are "feather fluff tracks".![]()
