Waiting for 9/22 hatch date! I put fertile eggs under the broody hen!

When I woke up the morning...day 22, she was out of the nest box and sleeping behind in in the dog crate. the eggs are very cold and I do not see movement. I had my incubator going to i took them from the box and placed them in the incubator. Any thoughts? What went wrong?

100% nice! My 5 hatches have been learning the scratch-n-peck from momma hen. 8 babies shadowing a happy hen ought to be a sight.

Cold abandoned eggs this late in the game? Im so sorry. Im new to this myself scshev but I dont think those are going to hatch. I cant even imagine what happened there.

Congrats to everyone! Even the failures are valuable for the lessons they can teach us. I for one will never again allow eggs to be laid under my broody days apart. Those 2 are still cooking off in a 100 degree incubator with a moist rag in the corner. Nothing yet but I remain positive.

I have to wait until Monday!I can't stand it! Need to rig up an enclosure in the hen house for her this weekend but I think I'll be camped out there starting Sunday. 2 of 4 look like they're still going. Nice air spaces, veins, very big dark thing in the eggs. This is very exciting. If these hatch and if they survive (notice I didn't count my chickens before they were hatched!) the next big question is what will they look like and did I get girls. Barnyard specials.

I caught Francesca off the nest again, hanging out in a low Myrtle branch with the home girls. Probably catching up on the news. The eggs were still warm. I scooted her back to her nest and she's as broody as ever. I hope she's going to make it to the hatch and that she's not getting tired of this whole thing yet. I'm sorry, SCSHEV, about what happened with your hatch. I'm going to set up the incubator and the brooder just in case. Unfortunately I'm going to be gone a lot today and tomorrow so I can't watch her.

I think they will hatch if they were going to. Temperature at the end is not crucial. Humidity is though, so what's the humidity in your bator?

There was someone on here that the hen escaped the run and couldn't get back to her eggs. She was off the nest for over 8 hours (in the middle of the incubation) and she still had eggs hatch.

ETA: At day 22 you shouldn't see movement. They are already in position for hatching.

I have a PIP this morning!!!!!!! I lifted Polly the EE up to check on the eggs, and I saw it! I quickly set her back down, so there may be more! I sure hope so!!!!

So I tried to candle our two remaining egg since our excellent broody got up and left them for more than 2 minutes for the first time ever. I can see a shadow on one end of one of them. The other egg doesn't let any light pass at all. I put them under our other broody, but I don't have much hope... The other 5 hatched on Tuesday even though they were expected on Wednesday. Any insight?

TIA!

IT HATCHED!!! I set Polly up in her new temporary crate (attached to the nesting box in the coop) with homemade chick starter, water with apple cider vinegar, and some scrambled eggs.

The egg that pipped this morning was just a shell when I just looked!!! I tried to find the chick under Polly and couldn't, but I heard it peeping. I felt it and it was all snug in her feathers under her rear end. Hopefully I'll get to see it soon!

If no light is passing through, then the chick has broken through the air sac. Leave them alone, I bet they hatch! Maybe your broody wasn't sitting faithfully for the first few days so they were slower to develop.
