Walmart feed

My walmart in south carolina does not sell chicken feed either.

and heck i used to work there all the time.

I've never seen it at walmart here either... but TSC is right across the street, so they probably don't want to be wasteful with the competition.

I say buy what you want to buy. If you feel better about the feed you buy stick with it if you can afford it. If you want to save the money, try the walmart stuff. I wouldn't buy any feed not packaged in the US though. I have issues with the regulations on anything packaged over seas. Who knows what might have slipped into the feed, and slipped into the US. Don't want to find out either!

I went to Walmart this morning to have a looksie. I checked out the animal feed and there were actually 2 different brands of chicken feed. One brand came in 40# bags and the second brand 50#bags. Both made in USA and both had all the levels of feed needed for the chickens stages of growth. They also had 50 lbs bags of cracked corn, oyster shell and 25# bags of BOSS. I am going to give it a try.

Why would I. I have never been in a walmart an could not find chicken feed. Not that I check for it in every one I have ever gone in. Its usually only 2 or 3 bags hidden under the bird seed or over by fish tanks. Some walmarts have a whole isle for livestock feed though.

Ive personally seen it in Tn, Al, Ga, Fl, SC, NC, KY, MS, VA an LA

An Walmart.com shows Chicken feed in stock in at least some AR stores.

I live in between two Wal-Marts, both an hour away in either direction. One has the chicken feed, one doesn't. It's funny though, the one that doesn't have it is right next to a TSC. The one that does, is in the middle of a big city.

Generalizations will always get you into trouble.

This is not true for those that certify local ingredients, like the Cascade foods by Magill Ranch that I feed my chickens.

Even if the label is "organic," that does not exclude products from places like China so long as that country says the products are "organic." I did not realize this until I saw an online posting about an organic food that is popular in my area. When I asked a store that carries the brand about the source of the soybean meal, they confirmed that it could be anywhere that provides the "organic" product, including China.

I am new at this but I would never feed 'junk food' from Walmart to my chickens. I feed the highest quality dog food to my dogs (always have) and the same goes for my chickens. Over the years I have done lots of research on dog foods. It's horrifying what they actually put into some of these 'bargain' foods- they aren't a bargain if you care about nutrition. I want my chickens to be healthy and happy and laying good healthy eggs for me to eat. Just saying....

It might not be Junk food . You have to "research" the label on the bag . And I promise you expensive doesnt = greatness. There is lots of times where you pay alot more for just the name.
