*UPDATE*

OG is staying at the vet to undergo a procedure to remove the black holes of demonic doom, clean her out, and stitch her up.

Doc says the black spots appear to be dead/dying breast muscle tissue and that the wound simply isn’t healing up (or maybe it can’t, I don’t know).

So she’s going to remove the dead spots, clean her up/check out the unseen areas once she’s opened and hopefully some stitching should be enough to send this to the finish line of healing.

No suggestion on cause of wound though she did say looking at it from the inside might be able to help.

Either way, we’re still open for snapper bite, infected feather follicles, puncture/impale wound or some small pellet-esque wound.

All I know is I don’t have the money for my damned heart LOL. She said necrotic tissue and I burst into stupid tears. I mean duck is perfectly damned fine (albeit grumpy) but I got all sensitive thinking her parts were falling off like a leper. So I paid for the procedure and *fingers crossed* I can pick her back up later today. 2 hour drive each way... I’m not certain I have the patience for that. So I’m beebopping around in City killing time.

Obviously, I will update as I get her later.

But in the meantime, here’s a picture or two of her on the ride to Indy. She was having no part of having the lid on and INSISTED on being able to see.
Oh these pictures are priceless

Doing great! got me some ducklings so i am real busy......:frow

okay where did you find ducklings!?

I’ve been stalking Metzer (being this is my first time buying ducklings, I know no other places that I would like to try... some are sketchy-ish)

The duckies im wanting aren’t available until April now :hit

They tend to have some at Tractor Supply when they do the chick days....

How are you both doing this morning?

Well, so far so good. I put her in my terrier’s cage and put an empty box in there to shrink available size; if she faced a side wall she could totally stretch them wings wide and happily. So I put it in there and it made Cage half as big. I’m still iffy on whether she can stretch her wings out with space she has but I’m reluctant to try and make it any smaller an area for her because then I feel like she wouldn’t be able to stand or turn around easy or anything else. I don’t want her poor ducky legs getting atrophy... or at least that’s a concern that my anxiety/worry made up.

I put her cage out on the porch (my pseudo coop) so that she and FatFat can be together. It was both heartbreaking AND heartwarming to see FatFat immediately stop her (apparently all day long) squawk fest and she and Og both started their little coo’s and smiggle noises. FatFat was trying like crazy to put her beak in the cage and she just kept pacing the outside of the cage. She slept right next to the cage and OG, obviously, slept right next to the wiring so that she and Patty were touching each other.

OG pooped a ton in the cage and it was smeared every dang where. She’d toppled her water dish over but, like a little piggie, she’d eaten all of her food. So basically there was a mild poop slush in the cage this morning. I’d put two puppy pads in there but they can only hold so much and I suspect the toppling of the water was it’s limit.

Sooooo, being a neurotic mess, I began worrying that her poo would infect her wound or that she got the stitches too wet (again, they’re dissolvable). So I went and grabbed the Vetericyn spray and sprayed the crap out of it (LOL I see I made a punny) and then I slathered that silversomethingoranother antibiotic ointment on it (the ointment she’d previously given for the big ugly). I know she didn’t say to/that I had to but because of presence of poo on her underside (albeit thin and not horrible), I felt like I should do SOMEthing. The area has been shaved devoid of feathers and is fleshy with some gnarly stitching/battle wounds but everything (so far) looked okay and no worrisome signs of infection. Keeping up on it will be *SO FUN* because I HAVE to have hubs help me (to ensure she’s not flailing or flapping and popping stitches) but I know after the horrible poop scenarios from my dearly departed Lucy, he’s sorta ‘over’ the duck poop.

But! It’s super cute... I was cleaning her cage with some Lysol wipes while he held her and I turn around and he had bent over (as much as he could:: again, Afghanistan injuries cause issues) and was holding OG out so she and FattyPatty could do some little neck and beak snuggles and greets. I just thought that was so frickin adorable... yes the ducks (obviously) but that my Grumpy had a thought of that when even I had t thought of it. I guess with me it’s all snuggle luvin’s or nothing at all LOL. So he’s a softy ;) ;)

And btw, I’m so inclined to do another post about poo maintenance! Or maybe I can just address it here as I’m certain that it’s a similar question to others already existing on the poo thread::: what do you think @casportpony ?

I’d noticed some the other day when I was in there (in fact, had to snap a pic so I could send it to hubs in the parking lot) but I’d sortve figured they were all Pekins and I’m wanting at least 2 Cayugas and maybe 2 more of undecided breed
