What is Your Favorite Christmas Dish? (PARTY!)

Pics
The author of the story, Jean Shepard, used to be on late-night radio, telling funny stories. I first heard A Christmas Story on the radio, which has spoiled me for more recent versions.

I was a teenager, and listened to Shepard on my radio at night in my bedroom - the perfect setting for hearing about the illicit antics of Ralphie and his friends. Shepard (a man, in case the spelling confuses) had the perfect gleeful voice for it. (He may have narrated the movie. I can’t remember.)

I almost always prefer the original version, no matter what. I guess it’s part of getting older. The newer versions of things always feel to me like cheap imitations.

I love the old post-WWII Christmas movies, especially White Christmas, where the G I s come together to save their beloved general’s winter resort in a Vermont winter with no snow. Sentimental! I love it!
I was forced to watch those old movies when I was a kid. And I would never have admitted it at the time but I loved them. Saving the Holiday Inn if I remember correctly.

One of the things we most look forward to around here is our Lego Winter Village.

I started it 6 or 7 years ago for my grandson. He's 9 now and it's grown quite large. We all look forward to it. I might have guessed by now he'd think he had grown out of it but now that he can be the builder of the new editions and arrange everything to his own sensibility I think he's only more enthusiastic.

It can't last forever but we now talk about when he'll be bringing it out after Thanksgiving for his own family so I think it still has a long history in front of it.

I wanted to make a short video and post it here but I can't seem to get it off my phone. Then too, I don't know if BYC will take video. Not a good pic but probably the only way I'm going to be able to capture it.

Anyway, this is one of my family's holiday favorites.
What a great family tradition!

My mom actually sent me a link to a story where a family was using the same white tablecloth for years, and each year all the members of the family would sign it. Since, they've had some members pass away which means they cherish it even more!
I'm thinking of starting the same thing while there are still a lot of little ones around, will be neat to watch their handwriting change as they grow :love

So inspired! And a true family treasure!

I wasn't exactly invited but ;)...
So far I've made in the last two weeks: Red velvet cookies, sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, Andes mint chip cookies, white chocolate covered pretzels, peanut butter bonbons, brownie truffle bonbons, puppy chow, peanut brittle, toffee, peanut butter cups, cinnamon cashews and honey suckers. Banana and pumpkin breads. My boys are over the moon happy this time of year but it's not all for us. I make baskets, or bags to give as gifts. :)
