What is Your Favorite Christmas Dish? (PARTY!)

We almost made peppermint bark this year. There's this fun way of doing it with colored white chocolate splatters on one side that are very Jackson Pollock. But we opted for banana bread instead.

Our festivities are done and over with (and they were amazing!) so it's so strange to have people still talking about getting ready for me. We're probably gonna spend tonight watching the Nutcracker (my partners tradition) and tomorrow just playing videogames all day since everyone has the day off. Partner wants to watch Die Hard too. XD

My grandson and I made some.

I learned an interesting fact: if you temper your chocolates it's going to be made of dense crystals and have that nice chocolate snap. That means you want each layer to be 2-3mm deep. If, on the other hand, you let a 9yo spread them to 1/4" layers you'd better be sure everyone has VERY strong teeth! A corollary to that is that when you have to beat it with a meat pounder you're going to replace the nice gloss you created with dings and scars and the candy cane bits tend to get rattled off.

Still, we have a jar of it for him to present to everyone tomorrow.

I started the season a little down because wrist surgery sidelined me with pain and disability. I haven't been able to do what I ordinarily do for Christmas. But enjoying what everyone else has done vicariously really picked up my holiday spirit! So thanks to everyone for your contributions!

Are any of you near a Trader Joe's?

One just opened up about 30 miles from here. We like their products very much. The only problem is that if you find something you like buy multiples because it may not be there the next time you shop. I also find their prices to be inexpensive to moderate as compared to our local grocery stores.

I've only been in a TJ's about 2 times, there never seems to be one anywhere close to wherever I've lived. Surprised to hear about their Sour...I just figured they were like Whole Foods (pricey).

If I remember it correctly, Trader Joe's originally opened to provide good, easy to make foods at prices appealing to professors and college students. They tend to have some unusual things, a lot of great cheeses. and the produce is good. I don't go there often, but I do like the store. They are about an hour away from me.
