I saw something really bad today. I went to a farmer's market. There was an "old" man selling chickens that were obviously older stock. The cages were 3x5 with about 15+ chickens per cage, 2 cages. Big chickens. Most of them had twisted beaks, broken beaks, both top and bottom. Several had some kind of growth under the skin below the eye that had grown until the eye was forced closed. The looked like RIR, but even the feathers were pretty ratty.

People were actually buying these chickens. I would be surprised if you got an egg out of them, and I certainly wouldn't have eaten them with those growths.
I have been kicking myself all day for not asking for his number in case I "decided I needed them later" so I could call and report him to someone.
I will go again next Wednesday, if he is there I will call.
Any suggestions on who to call?

You should have a local animal control or humane society - that would be who I would try first. Other than that, try the department of agriculture or possibly a local animal rescue. You could also try asking the farmers market to ban him.

Let me know if you want help researching the local animal agencies.

Good luck, and good for you for taking action!
