I choose to try to live with the raccoons, oppossums, and skunks. It isn't easy and I worry all the time. I can't even kill a spider, they go outside on a napkin. All summer I had raccoons living in the trees about 15-20 ft from run on the other side of a fence. Later in the summer the oppossums joined them. Last week an oppossum was at my front door when I came home. Haven't saw to many skunks but I have smelled them. Right now coyotes are a problem. They are running in groups and killing dogs everyone. The latest attack left a pit bull dead and another one badly injured.
I have not saw any tracks in the snow around the run. I don't sleep well in the summer, I am constantly checking the electric fence and my German Shepherd is on duty all night. The darn dog was so active I didn't even notice the weight loss. I had to get him a special high calorie food, but he keeps the coons and oppossums up the tree. They start to come down and he is right there and they scoot back up. The rooster will crow in the middle of the night if he he hears something, that crow brings me and the dog running. The rooster has never been wrong.
