Afternoon all!!! I would have posted yesterday but I was exhausted!! Went to bed at 9 and fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. Did not move unitl 7 am.
Well the seminar yesterday went well and we had tons of fun. I have 6 production red pullets left over so if anyone is interested, PM me. They will be 1 week old tomorrow and came from Abendroth's Hatchery in Waterloo. They are nice and healthy and 3 bucks a piece. Depending on where you live I can try to coordinate with dh to deliver them or we can try to work out a met up someplace. If you want to see pics of them let me know.

French Toast did a great lead in for me with her peepstakes and Nutrena info! My hubby is the Gamebird Rep and "poultry dude" for Nutrena here in WI. He wanted to let you know that on June 2 at 1 pm, he will be hosting a mill tour for Mad City Chickens and wanted you all to be invited to see how your chicken feed is made. It is at the mill in Milton WI (near Janesville). The only requirements are closed toed shoes and no pictures are allowed due to proprietary (sp) reasons. Mad City Chickens also would love to meet some fellow chicken addicts!
There will be a possibility that Ron Keen from UW Ag Extention will be there are well. More info to follow and if you would like to come, please let me know!

Afternoon All...yep, she is crappy out there today. Venison roast in the oven and will add the tatos later. Gonna have some buttered beets for a veggie and beer bread on the side.

Good to hear Joan is improving. Hope she can completly heal.

Forgot to say way to go fm with the sales. I was wondering where you were keep all the chicks you hatch. Now I know. Seriously thinking of getting brinsea to do select hatches for the bucks and the javas.

Suzie anwered all the questions for the DNR spring meetings 4-11. I have to do mine yet . 85 questions to answer. We always have ours done and then simply fill it out at the meeting. It saves 3 hours or more that way. The Wisconsin Bowhunters wants folks to answer no for questions 41 and 48 in regards to the use of crossbows.

Good idea about checking the pattern Doc... I think I'll wait for nicer weather though.

Bucks are due to hatch today or tomorrow....gosh Jim you're always expecting! Hope it turns out good for you!

Hi again! OK--I will start with a problem I have noticed with my incubation habits...Just for fun I joined the Easter hatch (with CONTESTS!) I put lots of my eggs in and a dozen from the fridge and some to check if the roo was "working." I am not expecting much but just wanted to play a bit with this incubation. The bator heated up just like last time. I added no water after I sterilized it and washed it out. It is running at 30% right now (according to the gauge that is 14% low) the temp with the fan running is 100. The temp with the fan off falls to 96! What do you "pros" think about this? I am SOOOO glad that my hens are starting to go broody!

OK--for those of you wondering about meal worms...I watched actual youtube videos about this!!! Can you believe that people actually have time to MAKE videos about mealworms? (and then there are those that actually WATCH them!) I grew them when I was a kid too...they kind of took over the basement

So this time I am limiting myself to a cottage cheese container! Get one; punch holes around the lid. (I used my 1/8" hole punch) Then get yourself some mealworms and our them in. Add some rolled oats, cornmeal, cereal...they're not fussy. A baby carrot on top for moisture. You can add newspaper or buts of corrugated cardboard for them to lay eggs on. Just check for dead ones occasionally (they get black) When you finally see the pupae then you almost have beetles. Some people take them out and start a new jar to keep the eggs and little ones separate. I am trying NOT to do that this time. I might make just ONE more...not sure. I only have 3 pupae right now so I have time yet! I started mine in January and they dont grow too fast when it is cold. (that's why they keep them in the fridge at the pet store) Now they are finally turning into beetles. It is a pretty low key livestock operation! I imagine it will step up in the summer months.

OK--now the cake...BL4 mentioned that she didnt get (or would like to get) The Cake Bible for her birthday (or something, I cant remember the details) but I did know that I had the book and could never make a cake out of it because the first cake I tried, I was so busy doing it and let the dogs out and one got hit on the road....so Anyhow, I couldnt pick the book up again! (TMI I know!) So I sent it to BL4 and she has been tempting us with pics of all the wonderful cakes she has been making out of the book! She has to make the cover cake for either the bash or just to picture here...I also cant remember the deal! And yes, that was before GF....I did take a long look at the book before sending it....I just ordered 2 new books from Amazon that ARE GF...gotta find something to make for Easter that my Aunt and I can eat!!!

Oh yeah...I wanted to comment on the beer bread. DH made it last night to have along for dinner and the people devoured it! It was very dense looking and they thought it tasted good. I thought it looked like the perfect bread to hollow out and serve a spinach dip or thick soup in! MMMM--that sounds soooooo good! Well that is my report...maybe I will try making of with GF beer and GF flour....then I can actually taste it!

MLH--cool about the Milton tour! I will definitely put that on the calendar! I went to one of the seminars at Frank's Feed in Jefferson...that wasnt your DH was it? There was another guy there talking about organic feeds etc...I didnt buy it. Would love to take a tour though!

I'm not really an organic label kinda gal since IMO once it rains, the pollution in the rain water kinda takes the "organic" out of things. Years ago we handled some organic feed at our feed store back when the movement was just starting. Back then it was $25-$28 a bag for 40#'s of organic chicken feed. It was terrible stuff to try to keep in the store too. I swear, once it came off the pallets and into our store, it was like the bug dinner bell got rung. It got so buggy. We finally told the one customer who bought it she had to get it the day it came in. After about 6 months she finally went back to the non organic variety. Her chickens did not eat the feed once it got buggy so she stopped feeding organic.

The tour should be a lot of fun. It's really amazing to see the milling process and all that goes into it. I can't wait so see it myself. I've been on one mill tour back in Cali and it will be fun to compair notes in my head!

TO, I can explain why I do not grow my own mealworms. 1. Not enough time to check on them (I would forget); 2. I do not have the room; 3. My kids would be playing with them ALL the time and I would not have any left after 2 days!

We use the beetles at the University so I am well aware of the growing conditions required. We use potatoes for moisture instead of the carrots, and moistened natural paper towels (the brown ones). Right now I have a batch that have been going since the beginning of the fall semester.

The cake book I am talking about is The Cake Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum; TO was kind enough to send it my way so I sent some noisy calls her way!

( I think I got the better end of the deal here....

). No cake today, I did not make it to Fleet until after 2, the kids started watching the last episodes of the last season of Deadliest Catch and I was sucked in....... TO I still plan on making the cover cake for the bash, I still need to get that Saturday off.........

Speaking of TV; we do not have anything other than Netflix. No antenna, no cable, just instant streaming Netflix and the 2 disk swap program; a STEAL at $14 a month! I LOVE IT!!!!

The jogging stems from just wanting to get into shape for my kids; AND my cousin has a friend who is a photographer who is planning a 'trash the dress' photo shoot this summer and I would LOVE to have some shots done! My wedding dress is horrible so I would run out to GW and pick one up for a song and use that one....... right now I cannot even run half a block, I can't breathe once I get that far (stupid asthma), and today my shins were KILLING me. I went out and bought some new shoes to soften the bounce..... I am motivated by my cuz too, she started running this last summer and is now up to running over 3 miles every day, and she dropped down to a size 8.

Try a slow jog, but warm up and STRETCH 1st.. also see your doctor, and ask for a referral to a phys. therapist OR to a gym. At least discuss a goo d way to start, so you don't
hurt yourself.

Good morning all. I finally got a good nights sleep and feel much better. Wasn't feeling well for about a week now, low energy, felt like my breathing was a bit harder than it should have been. Was so tired yesterday DH wanted to take me to hospital. Amazing what a good nights sleep can do.

Susie J we are moving just outside of Janesville and it can't happen soon enough!

Must Love, hopefully will be all moved and settled in time for the tour, sounds interesting and would love to go. I'll just have to see how our move goes.

Seems like it's been a longer than normal winter up there this year, hope spring decides to put in an appearance soon.

Sounds like Joan is doing great, so good to hear.

The bator is doing great now depends on how well Buster did his job. dk1 it's a lot of work buying and moving not to mention the worries. TO thanks for the info but after reading I have to agree with bl4 mine would surely die just like the nightcrawlers in the box that got shoved out of the way so I could do some work. Out of mind, Out of mind! Maybe after things slow down a bit.

WCc glad to hear you got some sleep and Joan is on her way home. Bigz you might have to try a couple of different loads to which is best.

Haven't made any bread since starting the bathroom gonna have to try that beer bread. But I'll use L's beer, mine has a high value.

The trim is ready for instalation and was thinking yesterday that I gotta set the nails then putty the holes and seal them.

Guess there's always something else to do. Then a I noticed a couple of thin spots on the walls..... Just walk away. Also going to make a lemon merengie pie or 2 today. Never done that before I see there's a couple tricks to a perfect one. Slept in this AM, felt good but now I'm behind. Gotta go! Have a good one!
