World Egg Day Hatchalong!(October 12, 2012 is World Egg Day!)

Wow. I had to google them and they are gorgeous. I hope you do get a hen and a roo. You could use some better luck.

I just got some bantams (snap purchase when I saw the parents) but they're just Mille Fleur Barbu d'Uccles, nothing as fancy as your cochins.

I say go for more eggs. You can recoup the outlay by selling your own next year!

Thats what I was thinking, hahaha. Everyone that told me I was crazy, I simply replied it's an investment, hahaha. And there aren't really any good pictures of silver laced cochins on google, I'll attach pictures of the parents. And I love the Mille Fleur Barbu d'Uccles, they are probably next on my list of chickens to get, hahaha. They're so beautiful and can definately look better than silver laced cohcins. I would also like to get so Mille Fleur cochins, I love the pattern and cochins are my favorite breed if you couldn't tell.

cluck-cluck - You'll have to keep us updated with your little serama chick. Do you know what color it's going to be? Seramas are so precious and I love their body shape with their tails sticking straight up. Do you have other serama's already, or will this be your first.

Thanks cluck-cluck, for the encouragement! I'm on day 21 now. Last night I saw one egg jiggle several times, and so far once again today. Hopefully something happens soon!

Those cochins above are beautiful!

Just saw it wiggle again! I'm so relieved. It's still only the same one that's wiggling, but if one's alive then there will be others alive too. I've been upset because I made quiche for dinner on Saturday, and I was worried that there's some karmic commandment against doing so. You know, something like, "thou shalt not make quiche at any time during lockdown." Phew!

Well I only had the one serama that hatched. All shipped eggs so I guess I am lucky to get that! He is a very pretty silver color. I will take pics and get them posted soon. Time for me to clean incubator really good and get ready for this weekends hatch. I seem to have chicks due to hatch almost every weekend for the next couple weeks!! Marans and silkies this weekend, swedish flower hens the following two weekends. I have bantam cochins in the mail on their way to me, so I am keeping my incubators and brooders busy!

Well wima my broody BO hen did it! At least 2 chicks have hatched so far. Not sure about the other 5 eggs. She hasn't moved from the nest box, so it's tough to tell. One fell out of the nest box, but found it quickly and put it back. Have secured a board in place to prevent it from happening again. Wilma could still go out. Had to secure the coop to prevent the cats from exploring, hopefully I can move the little family tonight to their more secure digs.

I was practicing the piccolo, particularily trying to get the B that is 5 lines above the staff (for any of you who know music) when I started to hear what sounded like crickets. I go over to the incubator and there they are chirping, but not like normal chirping, they sounded exaclty like crickets. I then realized if I need ear plugs before I even attempt to play those notes, then they probably would too so I went and practiced in a different room. But has any one else heard their chicks chirp like a cricket would? I thought it was really cute even though they may have been doing it because their ears hurt..
