Whoa, I've never seen one of those! He looks huge, how big was he?
He was about 2" long and easily 1/2" in diameter if not a little more. They can give a really nasty bite as they have big jaws. Once upon a time I had two of them in a jar and the bigger one bit off the smaller one's legs before it killed the smaller one. It did the same thing to a Black Widow spider.

You won't find them in wet areas but they are around in the dry sandy places. I used to see them around all the time but between the Grackles, Robins, chickens, guineas and turkeys, they disappear very quickly.

I spotted a little bird at the feeder this morning that I did not recognize. When I went back this afternoon with the camera, none of the little birds were to be seen.

This is why all the little birds were hiding. It pretended to be sleeping but did just barely open one eye for a brief moment.

I'm always amazed at how something that large blends in so well. Great photos Bob!

Awesome photo! Looks like the owl is sleeping off a big meal of little birds..... ;)

Thank you. The owl is still there this morning. It is awake but with its eyes just barely open. The little birds are ignoring it and are at the feeder. Turns out they are American Goldfinches in their winter wardrobe.

Wonderful pictures Bob!

That jail cell looks a bit frosty. We got about 2" last night, did you get some snow too?
Thank you.

Of course. There was 2 5/8" of snow and it got down to -5°F this morning. I was fortunate to get the guinea pen mowed yesterday before the cold front moved in. I am really glad that it is done. Now I have to wait for the next thaw so I can mow the garden.
