we have all kinds and I have to say I think ours crow quieter than our other bantams even. For sure quieter than our silkies and even the nankins. Out of all the rooster his crow is my favorite! It sounds kind of like a little alarm clock, we have had him inside before shows and am...

Thanks for sharing yoru experiences! My coop is like 30-40 feet from the nearest neighbor, so still a little concerned. But ya maybe only one rooster wouldn't be too loud.

It kind of is the luck of the draw, out of three hatches this year with a total of 12 live chicks. The first hatch had 2 out of 5, 1 out of 1 and 3 out of 6. I have 3 short leg hens and one med. leg hen in with our SQ short leg roo. so with 6 out of 12 I got half, I am pretty sure it...

yeah the legs are to long for show, might make some short leg babies depending on their breeding. And also agree they need a fuller shape more of a round breast. SO you have a good start
just posted my first ever auction! Go see if anyone lives near central Tx and interested in Black japs! It's in the 8 wks and older section this will be the first time for us to sell a SQ pair, we usually keep all SQ pullets but we finally have enough! LOL! I am thinking sometime maybe I should...
My son gave all his black japs Japanese names... (he is also an Avatar the last air-bender fan)
Jet -our rooster
Katana - our original hen
Zelda
U-A
Suki
Toph
Saka (a roo we hatched but gave away)
how many are broody? Is it possible to move the nest? or block it for a few days? sometimes if you disturb them enough they will stop, depending on their determination to be a mother!

she starting getting the coloring before she every went outside and it never gone away she now a year old. I have seen one that look like her and they called in a brown/red but not share how I got it...LOL
thats so cool....has she molted yet? I wonder if she will molt it out or keep...
she is pretty!! only thing I can think of is that its discoloring from the sun or "bronzing" but it's so evenly done looks like gold lacing, pretty though.
Well my prediction was right!
The chicks are old enough to tell now and I definitely have 2 rooster and 3 hens...so the wing sexing worked!! That leave me with one short leg pair and the rest are long leg. I will post pics again soon
thanks on the congrats! we are proud our little JB flock is doing well at shows and my daughter used one of our hens for showmanship, they are so docile! The roosters have never looked twice at us. I was giving away a breeding pair at the last show and a JUDGE wanted them. The hen was long leg...

I wish I could help! I know nothing about color crossing, and actually not having any luck getting a response from that yahoo group either, I have asked a few questions and never got one response!
My main question is, that we have black japs and would like to maybe get another color...
Hi everyone! been a while since I have posted on the thread, just watching. But we have new babies! One of our hens went broody on her own and has made a WONDERFUL mother we had a great hatch, 5 out of 6! Here they are.....
To the best of my knowledge and feather sexing, I have 2 long leg...
AAWWW! so cute! awesome hatch rate!
We have a broody hen! We are so excited, we didn't even know they had started laying yet. How many is a good amount of eggs for a jap to sit on? there where so many in her nest I had to take out a bunch she wasn't sitting on and they all had veins, so they...
Hey everyone! I thought I would post this on here before I tried CL! If you live near Central Tx... I am trying to find a home for a pair of black japanese we have decided not to keep. They are both under a year. They are not show quality BUT they will be great for breeding. The cockerel has a...
No worries! It takes a lot to upset me, esp. On here
we have had this hen for a year now and there was only one time she was housed w/ a nankin roo for a short time. Then I moved her back with the japanese roo and she was with him for quite a while before she even laid an egg. Not sure how...
I got them from a great breeder, they where a gift to my son, everyone in his 4H group got a breeding pair of chickens to bring home. So far this will make 9 hatched this year. I have terrible incubator luck so I used broody silkies for this hatch and it went great. I have gone over and over a...
