Interesting project with good use of reclaimed materials. Great to have all the sketches but more information about why you did what you did would be helpful. Also, a photo of the "stickers" would be handy to help people understand what they are.

Dually noted. I can easily answer some of this today, errrmmm, this evening… and as your not the only one wondering if this idea “worked out” or “as intended” - that too shall get updates soon enough. Oh and a picture showing what “stickers” look like will be an easy solution.

Not only a marvelous coop with wonderful features like proper roof over hangs, generous ventilation, top-hinged windows, and a FUNCTIONAL CUPOLA but a splendid article.

You covered everything from design decisions to "What I'd have done differently". This should be a model for coop articles in the future.

Thank you so much for your kind words! The cupola almost did us in, but was totally worth the hassle. 🙂

Brooder looks great.

Unfortunately, the choice of font and the formatting are difficult to read. More build photos or a sketch plan with dimensions would have been helpful.

Nice illustration of the feathers and the clipping technique. Photos of blood feathers would have been helpful.

The design should limit wastage and the 2x4 should raise it to a good height for older chicks, but knowing how my chickens flip bowls by standing on the edge I'd be concerned that it would be easily overturned.

I liked the fact that you gave a list of pros and cons to the design and acknowledged the wire choice problem. It could have used more details of how the frame was constructed and how the bottom was wired.

I'd be interested to know how the bottom wire has held up over the years.

Too bad there are so few build details because a lot of chicks would be happier in this roomy brooder than in their little plastic tubs and cramped cardboard boxes.

Clever!

I don't know that I'd trust it vs snakes but it should help with escapes and casual intrusion of vermin.

Nice overview of the benefits of geese but it would have been nice to list cons as well as pros to help people decide if geese are appropriate for their backyard.

Sound idea, but I would like to see more details about how the wire was securely fastened to the metal tubes of the bedframe and how the plywood (Cardboard? Chipboard?) was secured to the frame, the wire, and the other pieces.

Also, it seems to be located outdoors, but what is keeping rain out? There is no info about weatherproofing the roof and no awnings or overhangs.

Really excellent DIY alternative to the usual gravity waterers. I'm sure it doesn't accumulate near so much bedding in the water as the usual open pan.

I may try this on a smaller scale for my cull cockerel pen because the crossbeak can't use a nipple waterer.

Great photos, but they need narration to explain the details we can't infer.

How big is the brooder?

How many chicks is it for?

How are the roosts attatched?
