Nice job. I appreciate the fact that you considered the dimensions that lumber comes in and included a materials list. I'm going to bookmark it for reference because people with limited building experience are always asking for run plans.

I also like the fact that the roof slants, which would make it easy to add a solid cover if your needs changed -- though I probably would have made the low side tall enough to walk in, at least for a short person.

Very good explanation of how your coop and runs have evolved over time and why you needed a new coop in the first place.

Except for being unfinished -- and thus lacking build photos and finished coop photos -- this is what every coop article should aspire to be.

Once it's done I'll certainly raise the rating to 5 stars.

I'm sorry to give any article a rating this low, but there are a lot of problems here.

First, I can't see that this qualifies as a coop at all. It's just a small wire box with no perch to roost on, no space for the chickens to move around, and no shelter from wind, rain, or hot sun. It doesn't meet chickens' needs at all. :(

Second, it's just photos without any explanation of the design process, the situation it's meant to function in, or how the build was put together.

Third, there are no plans or dimensions given so that if a person wanted to duplicate it they couldn't.

A well-thought out coop but the article needs more details about the construction and layout. I'll be happy to raise my rating if you add more information to allow people to duplicate the build.

Very cute, but as far as the photos show it has almost no meaningful ventilation and the already limited available space was further reduced by the in-floor ramp and diagonal perch. :(

I only have 3 chickens. It is more than enough space for them to perch. You are right about the ventilation, I did add more!

Looks like a great start. It would be nice to see this updated to show how it finished up and how it has worked over time. With the cost of lumber so high right now I'm sure more and more people are considering a resin shed conversion.

I don't normally give a rating this high to a coop without plans, or at least detailed dimensions. But I found the idea of the coop evolution interesting and the design with the built in brooder and integration facility plus the way the coop fits into your overall property -- even including the feral cats -- was so well-considered that I had to add a star.

I personally would find it helpful if you included a set of "From this, to this, to this" photos to help people envision how their current coop might grow to meet changing needs.

Thank you SO much! I will for sure use your advice to do a "from this, to this!" I've struggled with how to make the transition's flow better in terms of one big story. I've just been at this for so long now that it's safe to say I'm a compulsive adder-onner! I've also neglected to take enough mid-project pictures. For the first time I feel like I'm actually all of the way done now, so I'll put more time into organizing this journey virtually. Thanks again!!

It would be both useful and interesting to explain how the different features of your coop work to keep your chickens healthy and happy in a very challenging environment. I'm sure that people with similar issues would like to know how you handled the ventilation, winterization, etc. :)

That's a real chicken paradise of a run, but not much information on the coop itself.

Nice design. It's great that you included sketch plans and some notes on your management style.

I can't see it from the photos and you didn't say -- did you include soffit vents to go with your ridge vents?

I think that a competent handyman could *probably* duplicate this, but a little more detail in terms of dimensions of various elements would be useful.

That's a cute coop well-suited to an urban environment.

I'd like to see dimensions of the different elements and some good interior photos to show how the roosts run and how the ventilation works.

Thoughtful design for the climate. I think a competent handyman could duplicate the general structure.

Would have loved to have more detailed photos of the special features, dimensions, and plans -- even rough sketched.

Would have liked to see photos of the finished project both interior and exterior.

An interesting variation on the standard hoop house with some thoughtful details. I'd have liked to seen some closeups of how the wire was woven in the seaming.

Some more details about your climate and management system would be helpful to people thinking of building a similar coop and wondering if it would meet their needs.

Such a visually-pleasing and well-ventilated build!

Unfortunately short on details about dimensions, what the original structure that was converted was like, etc. I think it would be difficult for any but the most experience handymen to duplicate it.

Sad that this is an unfinished article. I was really looking forward to a creative "what we had lying around" build. :(

The repurposed play cabin with it's runs is amazing. I wish you had gone into more detail about the layout, how the conversion was accomplished, how the ventilation works, etc. As it stands, it's a great inspiration for the imagination but short on "how-to" for people looking to convert a structure in the same way.

The tractor *looks* reasonably practical, but the description is short on details.

I really can't say anything about the Hen Pen because the article didn't say much. If you're still around it would be great if you broke this up and added more details so that people you inspire could duplicate your coops. :)
