Thank you! I try to take photos of the ladies every now and then, as I really enjoy looking back at them. My phone has many many chicken photos, a few photos of our two dogs and very few photos of humans!

I can't say that I have ever seen bats using the bat house, but I know they use our house because we see their droppings under an opening where the wood siding meets the log walls. (The upper level of our house is framed, lower level is log). We try to dissuade them from this, but as long as...

OMG!!! I enjoy watching bats catch insects on our property and my daughter and I put together a bat house for them, but I would not be a happy camper to wake up to a bat flying around my bedroom!! You sound so nonchalant about it!!! Bat tax:

Sounds like she will make a great momma! I will be following with interest. It's so fun to enjoy a vicarious hatch 🐣🐣🐣!

When you do give one eggs, where will she sit? There seems to be so much action in those nests that it would be hard to not get broken eggs. The nests were a great purchase. They took to them right away!

Sounds like a good plan. I would love to let Penny hatch or adopt chicks someday, but since the hens live out their life cycle with us, I do have to be careful of numbers. Good luck with your broody! :love

Wow, those tail acrobatics are surprising! :) Yes, I expect lots more broodies this summer if it is anything like last year. It's interesting though because Clara is walking around tut-tutting almost constantly and both she and Myrna puff up and put out their wings to look big whenever any...

I just love is that Tsuri nonchalantly sitting there with her tail pointing to the sky! I have noticed that Penny does get off when others get too insistent about needing the nest which is the favourite, of course! I wonder if she knows that if she lets them in, they will leave her an...

I have one hen, an Orpington, who is a serial broody. She is broody now and it will be three weeks on Friday. I see no signs that she is planning on stopping. Do you find that your hens eventually stop on their own? I wonder at what point I should intervene, if ever.

I just love the way that a tiny chick's crop looks when it's full - like they swallowed a ping pong ball!

I was able to laugh at their antics since my serial broody has decided to take a break from sitting! Seriously, you have my sympathy and yes, they are nutters!

Wow she is well endowed in the tail department! I am amazed that she didn't peck you! My broody Penny had a feather sticking out of her mouth when I checked on her and she got three pecks on my hand in quick succession when I tried to remove it. I finally told her, "Okay fine, keep your feather...

There's a similar scene at our place with Clara, my Buff Orpington. I let her out after work, but she got in two flap fights right away, squawked her distress and ran back to the nest. She is back in the crate now. Funny because Rosa, my Welsummer was refusing to leave the nest, screaming at me...

My fourteen month olds are so broody! Rosa is my eleventh broody of the summer! Last night when I removed her from the nest, she let out a blood curdling scream that startled me so much that I almost dropped her! Maybe that was her plan all along? 🤔

It's so hard to know what to do with serial broodies. On the one hand I admire their determination, but on the other hand they drive me crazy! :barnie

What do you normally do with your broodies? Let them sit, break them, let it run its course? I am currently on my tenth broody of the summer with another threatening!

I originally got my chickens for the eggs, but now that I know them and get to enjoy their quirky, exuberant personalities I wouldn't care if they didn't lay another egg! They are so fun! :love

Thanks! I don't have any Fancy Girls, but I do think Rosa's feathers are pretty. (I actually thought I posted this in BYBob's thread! Oops!)
