This is a picture of one of our week old chicks. Only one eye is like this. No other chicks have a problem. The chicks eye seems sunken and is rolled down. I do not believe it can see out of it. Could this be injury induced or is there something much worse at hand?
For reference, this was the...
So I pulled the last three eggs, one was an earlier death. One was a fully developed chick that never absorbed its yolk, I'm not sure what happened. The last one was a fully developed chick that pipped internally but never progressed further.
That is very true. I was debating with my husband who said it was fine. I am going to take TalkALittle's advice and run trim board to close the gap. Since moving into a more predator dense area, I am way more nervous about the local predators. We just didn't have them as heavily in Ohio.
So, I returned from my impromptu 16 round trip (it's been a long 36 hours) today and decided to move my little survivor Orpington in with the rest of the chicks. He's eating and drinking happily, but he's so small. There is a two day difference in hatch dates between these two chicks. Everything...
Hello all!
I just finished setting up a new coop and put a screen door on. Everything is done in 1/4 inch hardware mesh except the door which is 1/2 inch hardware mesh. Upon closing it, I discovered this gap. Would you trust this in an area with weasels (I've never seen one but I know they are...
I have two dozen French Black Copper Marans, a dozen each from Littlepeddlers Marans and Sweet Pea Farm, then the replacement dozen BBS Orpingtons. I'm pretty excited!
I am! Though it'll be late May. I may ha e gone off the deep end. I've got four dozen eggs headed my way. I'll have two different lines of Marans, Ameraucanas, and my replacement Orps. What are you hatching?
So last night I thought I saw a pip in one of the Orp eggs. Sure enough this morning there was a baby trying to zip. As the day went on the little one was loud and struggling. Well I got a call that meant I need to make an overnight trip to Ohio tomorrow morning. Which lead to the fact that a...
Baby pictures!!
Here are all the chicks I currently have hatched out. Am1 was the one I thought was a wry neck, but after some good alone time and some poultry cell, it's doing wonderfully. So who knows, they are all marked so I can keep an eye on him.
I still have four eggs in the...
The hatch I currently have going on is Ameraucanas and Orpingtons, but I will be receiving 2 dozen French Black Copper Marans and either more Orpingtons or more Ameraucanas for this upcoming set.
