Hi Kurt,
I have a ? for you. My blue girls seem to be getting bleached out from the sun, some of their feathers have a light tan tint to them. I didn't chickens got bleached by the sun
I'm so sorry Aaron, my condolences to your family. HellBender made me laugh with his sense of humor. I will miss his " tell you the way it is " personality.
I would try ronott's idea. But, possibly for future broody hatching : I leave the broodies in the coop. I put them in a 2'x2'x4' wire rabbit pen. They aren't taken out of the flock. When the chicks hatch and momma has shown them the food and water. I open the door on the broody cage, AFTER...
The baby killer was separated from the rest of the flock. She was in a big wire dog crate, with a large box full of shavings to nest in. I also believe she was hatchery stock.
If I let her give it a go, I'll do the same thing. I set up a large wire dog crate with a nest box. Move her at night...
Hi Kurt, One of my Blue hens has gone broody !! Do you think I can trust her? I haven't had any luck with my previous Aussies being good Mommas. I had one that sat for the entire 21 days........... then killed each chick as they hatched. I was at work and found them when I got home. :(
I have 2 australorp roosters. They each have 5 girls. I open both pens at the same time, Duke takes his girls in one direction and Junior takes his girls in the opposite direction. When the girls decide to mingle with each other the boys stay on the outskirts of the flock keeping guard. There...
No worries ! I'm very happy with this hatch !! The lacing on a couple of the blues is awesome !! . I'm hoping for a blue roo, but it's not looking too promising. But next year if I breed, Black x Blue I will get more Blues & Blacks and hopefully a nice Blue roo. Can't wait to see the...
And more...................................
They all have nice dark eyes and...................................I'm thinking all my Blues may be pullets !
I started using this because Ron's discussion here about it. I really like it. Initially my birds looked at the waterers like " what the h..." but once they tasted it.......... it was all good !! It turns the water black.
You will most likely get a brown egg from your girls. The blue egg gene is linked to the pea comb. It looks like both of your pretty girls have straight combs
Thanks orum, I'm very excited to say the least ................................... to have the opportunity & privilege to hatch some of Kurt's BBS Aussie's
No splashes. The lighter chicks are 3 bantam mille fleur cochins & 3 red orpingtons. Your Splashes are Beautiful
Oooooo, that bear is gonna meet his maker....................... hopefully real soon
