Is there anything a chicken can get that would make a person or small child sick, or can it be passed in their eggs (that we eat)? We had a chicken that got sick with a mystery disease...it almost looked like it got a film over one of its eyes (which then bulged and looked like he went blind in...
For the mini, I did NOT find that the 12 ring worked for Bantam eggs. I actually put in over 12 eggs and resorted to hand turning them. Most of them hatched (I think 2 did not).
No, I did not try moisening the crumbles:(...but am going to run downstairs right now and give it a try!!! (Anything - I am already attached to them and slowly giving them names...)we ultimately will only keep three of them because I do not have enough space, but we know a very nice family that...
I was up till two AM trying to get them to "pick up", we did loose one (but he was our stange legged one, so I think that his chances were not great), two more seem to be OK...but Lucky (the tiniest one) is still fighting everything. The stress is killing me. I will also try with the running...
I just do not know what to do, about three of our Bantams are not "getting it". And I can see they are getting weaker..they won't go take a drink or peck at the food (I have been finger tapping at both). One in fact keeps trying to eat from the beaks of others (which of course means it gets...
I just hatched our very first eggs out of the mini advance (and we are first time hatchers). I ordered the extra tray and can say that it was not helpful...we wound up taking it out and actually shoving as many egss as we could in the little thing because we received so many extra. It hatched...
So far we have 5....but one looks like it poked a tiney hole and then gave up And it has been over 12 hours for that one, so I am thinking he won't make it? You want them all to come out! 2 white cockins, and I think 2
We bought them some saline water mix stuff from the feed store and medicated chick feed...once they are all out of their eggs, and dry, is that what they start eating right away? (the last time we had checks we bought them at least 2 -4weeks old) Thank you!I just want to make sure we did not...
Ugh ....this whole thing with Lucky is very stressful....I would like for him to STAY Lucky! I'll keep everyone posted, but I think he will be sitting in the R-COM incubator (from Meyers) and I do not see in the manual if the humidity levels raise themselves for these last two days...maybe we...
So you think even with the humidity spiking in the incubator he should be OK? And then i should reset the bator for another two days just for him after my other chicks hatch? (so worried about one egg!)
An egg. I have One egg that is two whole days behind in incubation because it was in a seperate handmade incubator that (broke) stopped working. We can get it running again....should I switch that egg back out of the incubator it is in right now -which contains eggs that will hatch in teh next...
I have a small problem.... one of our chicken eggs "Lucky" was put in a cardboard box with 5 others and then the lamp broke 2 weeks into it so I shoved him/her in a Brisnea-like brooder...but he is TWO days behind the eggs in the brooder!!! Lockdown for it will be today! Do I keep him in there...

We are going to get another thermometer today...but teh temp appears to be stable, just at three diff temps (they are all in the same spot so it can't be because they are in diff areas...)
We are working on it...so far three different thermometers read three different temps (they are all in the same spot) so we think it is the thermometers...and we do not want to set the egss till we know what the temps are....
Hi! I bought a mini-Brisnea incubator, but could only fit about 11 eggs in it, and we have 6 extra! (I got them off ebay) I cannot bring myself to throw them out so my husband is building (right now poor guy)) a card board incubator, with a 60W light bulb, therm inside and a bowl of water...
