My grey drake molted and i was wondering if he was in eclipse. He doesn't look like a female but his head is more dull and he lost his white ring around his neck. Its been quite awhile will he stay like this?
Oh i know! I hope it works in your favor. I have three too many drakes and new ducklings. Honestly I would vent sex, they say to do it in the first 24 hours when they havent eaten yet cause they can choke but i dont like doing it on the teeny tiny babies so i do it when their older im just...
I would say drake. Their heads will start to turn dark before they are noticeably green. His bill is also green and black, my juvenile hens had more orangish bills. Heres one of my juvenile drakes, you can see the dark feathers coming in near his bill.
We have babies!!! Amazing variety so far, we have blue fawn, grey, blue bibbed, and i think black bibbed. On the way i have three eggs left looks like white and probably more greys. Im really happy with the turnout considering all i have is a blue bibbed male on grey hens!
I have a broody sitting on 8 eggs and i think probably all of them have internal pips. They're moderately typey... moms are pretty typey, one dad is PQ and one is less typey than moms but still pretty typey. Anyway! Should i make safe holes?? I see them yawning and such in there and id hate to...
Mine is sitting on eight too! Not sure when shes due, i havent been keeping good track when i candle, theyre probably around 11 days old. I plan to keep my favorites and sell the others, maybe that will be easier on her rather than selling all of them. Or if she only hatches a few then i might...
When you have a broody hatch eggs how long do you wait before selling the ducklings? I dont think i have the heart to take away ducklings from a mommy but i cant keep them unless i thin my flock a little bit, which im trying to do.
Hey all !
Just a quick question, im trying to sell one of my juvenile call drakes, and I have a buyer who might be interested in crossing them to his mallards... is this a bad idea? Will the mallards pick on a call drake?
My calls are laying again and my boyfriend got me a maxi 2 advance brinsea for my birthday :th
Tempted to set some but I kinda want the girls to sit on the eggs themselves because I need a break from brooding ducklings indoors...
Eta i also dont really need more ducks but like come on does...
Some day I'll have to make a candling video of how to tell a living egg vs a quitter. It was always very clear to me when I candled, hopefully I can help some newbies out with some pointers.
