While I had to be away for an unexpected death in the family, the temps at home dropped to air temps of -15f at night. My fill in chicken caregivers did their best, but 2 of my girls suffered minor frostbite on their combs. I discovered it upon my return and have brought them inside and been...
I sell $3.50 a dozen for large/extra large and $4.00 for the jumbos. I can't keep up with the demand as I only have 3 girls laying with 2 more to start in October. I'm in western Michigan.
Ok, she didn't leave the box all day. She did screech when I lifted her out and also periodically while ranging in the backyard with the others. I also collected 3 eggs today, for 3 girls, so she's not bound. Thank you for talking me down. Right now she has food and water in the yard with her...
Not a scream, more of a low cluck. She puffs up her feathers. I have found some of her down like feathers in the box with the eggs. All of the girls like the same box.
I'm wondering if it is possible that my 11 mo old BO could be broody? She is spending ALOT of time in one particular nest box. I was worried that she was egg bound, but after checking, I don't think so. Help! I'm really worried about my sweet girl.
My 2 babies are 4 weeks old and integrating with the 3 bigs. They have a "panic room" with portals and food and water, but don't us it much. Can't believe how fast this happened. Love MHP and having them in the coop the whole time. One of my bigs, even lets them pull on her comb. Have to...
Just a picture update to me 2nd time using MHP. The babies are doing so well.
Bonnie is a Buff Orpington (my 3rd) and Eliza is my 1st EE. She is feathering really pretty.
My girl Harriet. Best layer in the bunch and my only RSL. She is the most reliable. Her eggs are the beautiful darker brown and they have a pretty shine to them. She's only been laying since mid-January and her eggs average around 68 g. This is 8-10 g heavier than my BA or my BO. Plus she...
I wish some one would have mentioned that in the breed comments. I thought I had researched well on my breeds. She is a nice girl other than this very troubling habit. She laid an egg today even in her "purgatory" of a dog kennel.
