Thanks everybody. Sorry for your loss fancy. I hope yours gets better mega. I'm not sure if it's the same thing but giraffe my old rooster had some mosquito bites on his comb once and healed fine. Can they get bitten without getting sick?
sorry you didn't get many hens. I'm afraid I don't have any more to offer you. I do have one boy though lol.
I've been up and down. Booker went broody again and i noticed far too late that she wasn't eating properly and was very thin. Vet said it was egg periontitis which caused extreme weight...
Beautiful chicks Luke :) and ash, the white Plymouth rocks are huge now! I have some just a month behind yours. I stil can't tell male or female with the whites but you seem to have a definite roo there. Are they the original four whites or from the second batch?
I'm thinking of offering a...
Hey guys :)
Yikes, 20+ Pages? Y'all have been busy! I'm afraid it's a bit much to catch up on but how are you all? How are the chooks?
I'm overrun at the moment :-P I still have Booker, my baby :) and purple the trouble making Araucana, the marans and princess emiko she's only two weeks...
oh satay, that does help :) I have just the fella too if you don't mind waiting for him to grow up. This is the one I would keep if I could. He's gonna be big I reckon.
Now to have that cuppa
I'm struggling to enjoy my Chickens. I think I resent them in some way, all but Booker that is. They're just replacements for giraffe :( I find myself thinking no, you're not allowed to (scratch, sit, fat etc) there/that, that's giraffe's. And with Booker in the nest so i rarely see her, I look...
Hey guys, I need some more advice on my broody if you don't mind. She's chucking all the eggs out of the nest :( the ones I can find are all broken except one blue egg that my ara managed to sneak under her. I don't have any more fertile eggs to give her :'(. Do I risk giving her the chicks in...
oh sweetie, I'm so sorry. It'll be ok. It does get easier, and then you find yourself feeling guilty for it being easier but don't. it's just something we have to do since we live so much longer than they do. We love them and give them the best care we can and that's what to remember. It gets...
when I bought my incubator from bellsouth, the people there said that you can keep it at forty-five for the entire time. I suspect the hygrometer isn't reading correctly but as long as it's forty-five or above they should be fine. I'd make sure you still have a vent open though, they need oxygen.
nope, these will be her first. I really hope she hatches a girl that I can keep :) I have some of her chicks already but would be wonderful to keep one raised by momma :)
I have a broody! Booker has been sitting for I think three days now and gets really angry if I go into the coop :-D I have some eggs of hers that I'm not sure are fertile that I can put under her, or I could give her the ones in the incubator which are on day ten. What do you think?
I've...
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I'm a Yank too :) born and raised in Texas. We got the same snobbery for a while but it seems to be catching on now. I was even talking to a woman on the bus recently who was telling me About this house I must visit on Halloween and it was my mom's place! She even mentioned this...
I have a handful of eggs from my ara that may be fertile by my late Plymouth rock roo if you want them. Then you can have two in one :-P there are a bunch of issues though. While I'm STILL getting fertile eggs from my rock hen, I can't confirm fertility on the Araucana as I can't see through the...
Sorry you guys are unwell :-\ I hope you all feel better soon.
I'm glad your rooster looks like he'll be on the mend Z :)
Ash, my gosh that's alot! Most I've ever had at once is I think twenty-something.
I only have eight Chicks at the moment. I lost one last night. :( the water I had in...
Still catching up on posts but on this, I'd maybe do foil around the egg then wet paper towel that way you get some humidity and heat protecprotection without getting the Eggs wet. I usually do that but around the carton not individual egg.
thanks :) I'm starting to bond with him which is a bad idea given I haven't decided if he's staying yet :-\ lol. He's from Bruce Robinson. Up your way I think.
Lol, another tea junkie here too :) I even have a big ol' drink dispenser that i fill with iced tea in summer. And grill bantams...
Thanks Satay :) that was helpful. I suppose I'll pick the Yokohama over the houdan for white eggs because I already have her and she was the only one to hatch out of About $180 worth of eggs. Then Booker for brown, my ara for greenish, a marans for dark brown, then go guess just a matter of...
