I could probably rustle up some eggs. I still have some Barnevelders laying and 1 Arkansas Blue laying. Other than that, it would be mixed breeds. I haven't hatched lately, so no promises on fertility. (though I am giving a broody eggs today, so I should know fertility soon ;))
I could meet...
I'm a bit farther from you, but I do have a juvenile cockerel that hatched this summer. He is either from a pure Ameraucana father and a Welsummer mother, or a pure Ameraucana mother over a Barnevelder father. (busy summer and I don't recall which egg he hatched from but I think it was the...
Anyone interested in an Arkansas Blue's breeding pair? Male is splash, female is black = 100% blue offspring. Since they are so rare, I'm looking for someone interested in working with them.
They are great foragers and fliers. If you have rafters, they will be in them. Covered run a must...
Is anyone here breeding Arkansas Blues? I have a very nice splash male, that I was planning on keeping, but he cannot stay here. He is overmating a couple of my hens.
I was noticing a lot of them were staying on the roosts during the day, so I put him in a different coop. That one little...
I need to get an instant pot some day.
They have the best temperament of any breed I have ever had. I've never had a mean barnevelder. Really great broodies too!
Love the male on the right!
Hey everyone, thought I would pop in and say hi!:frow
I will have Barnevelder eggs in the spring. And possibly pure Ameraucana - I have 2 blues (and a black) and thinking of breeding them for a splash. (and some more blues) I love splash and blue birds! I'm up near Auburn.
Beautiful. If I ever got into bantams, they would tempt me for sure. I've always loved the buff columbian coloring. LF Brahmas I could never afford to feed, they are HUGE!
I would use hardware cloth (screw it in so critters can't push it in) over the blue slats in the roof line for ventillation, but make sure you face them away from the direction of storms, so rain doesn't come in. I would put a solid 2X4 across the opening under the blue but above the door, it's...
I've been working on my Welsummers to improve type and also egg color. Type is improving nicely this year, and my first pullet of this year started laying. All 4 eggs are from the same pullet, but they are darkening every day. Welsummers are supposed to lay terra cotta (clay pot colored)...
Yup. My mutts are my best layers of all, they even beat hatchery birds.
I would say they are average sized. Mine are smaller than an Orpington, but larger than my Welsummers.
Welcome! We do have a member in Lake County but I can't recall who.
Thinking of everyone there in the fire area. My son's school is collecting clothing for those affected by the fire.
