My Buff Orp. has gone broody, so i decided to let her become a mom. This is my first time,so any advice would be really appreciated. I would also appreciate stories of unexpected obstacles that have occured with your broody hens.
Thanks
Karen
I have 19 hens which are about 6 different breeds. They are all pretty friendly except for my 3 brown leghorns. They are the most unsocial flighty birds ever. Has anyone else noticed this??

I feel really bad because my RIR always seems to be on top of this one particular hen. Then to make matters worst, when he gets off i have another one who gets her before she can even get up. He is to small to get on her without help!! I also have two other hens who he is so sweet and gentle...
I just ordered saddles for my hens. If anyone has used them can you please give me feedback. Do they work, do the hens show signs of being uncomfortable, can the hens remove them, and do they get dirty often??
Thanks,
Karen
I have 2 coops. One with laying hens and one with young hens who are not due to lay until March. Theproblem is that I have 2 laying hens who like to stay in the juvenile coop. What should I do? Should i mix the grower feed with the layer feed until the grower is gone, should i switch them all...
I had to give one of my roosters away today! I knew this day would come. I had 4 roosters and 11 hens. My roosters were giving my hens a bit to much action! I still probably have to get rid of one more. I have 2 coops, so i figure one rooster per coop is ok, and i plan on getting more hens in...
My RIR is 6 months and found his hormones!! I know what to do when they attack because i've read plenty. He grabbed me by the back of the leg today and i immediatly put pressure on his back until he was laying down in front of his hens!! Why does he do the dance and then attack?? Does he see me...
I know this is really strange, but i feel so bad for my hens when the rooster tries to mate with them!! Do they really have to be so rough??? I know i'm probably wrong and I probably look like a fool, but i can't help but to yell at him when i hear my girls scream as he grabs them by the neck!!
My polish pullet has been getting pecked and she has a big bald spot on her head! I went out and bought some blue kote. I read that this would help it avoid becoming infected and maybe stop the others from pecking at her. When i went to lock them up i noticed one of my roo's pulling at her head...
My polish got pecked today and whoever pecked her drew blood. I know it's not the 2 who live in her coop with her. I think it happened when they were freeranging last night. I will not let her out unless she is with me anymore. My question is, has anyone ever successfully tied their head...
For the past few days, i've become brave and left them out on their own to free range. They love it so much, it breaks my heart to keep them locked up!! So it was beginning to get dark, and i went out to lock them in their coops. I have three teenagers in my small coop and 9 adults in my big...
OK, so i have read so many posts on here about chickens pooping on the porch and causing a big mess!!! As i read these posts I thought to myself "I wish my chickens would come to my door to see me!!!" Well it happened!! We only let our flock free range if we are outside, so today while i was...
I would just like to get your opinions on what breed you consider to be the friendliest breed. I know for the most part, it's all in how we raise them. I have several breeds, but it seems once they mature, they become extremely independant and could really care less about their human care...
