I got a new rooster and chickens yesterday. They sleep with the 3 older chickens and older rooster but this morning they got out accidentally together and. The rooster fought until the older one ran away and the rooster and one chicken ganged up on the younger chickens.
All are settled seperate...

I have a question, I am after an incubator for hatching and have been offered a Hovabator 1584A with no turner. I have also been offered a Lab Oven that can also be used as a hatcher. If you were in my shoes what would you go for and how reliable are the Hovabators? I have heard lots of good...
I am buying a Janoel 4-48
What is the difference between this one and the Janoel 8-48. Also it has the name Janoel stamped on the lid does that mean it is the real deal and not a fake?
Thanks
Hi, I have a dozen fertile eggs I am wanting to put in my incubator, but I will be away for a full day and possibly not home until late on about day 7 and 8 if I start tomorrow. I have heard you should have the incubator going 24 hours before so would you wait unti you get back (Sunday) or just...
At the moment I have moved the incubator to my room and i put it in a Styrofoam box as i was concerned the box it came in want allowing enough air to circulate, but it makes it so big. Will it be safe to put it in the cardboard box it came in with the foam surrounding it or will it not allow...
I have read mixed things about the humidity for the first days of incubation.
Here it says 55-65% until lockdown for chickens and then 65-80% during lockdown.
Here it says 45-50% until lockdown.
So we decided to bite the bullet and get some Brown Leghorn Bantam pullets and a Brown Leghorn Bantam rooster so we can raise our own chicks.
The first step we took was to purchase 10 Brown Leghorn Bantam pullets and a Brown Leghorn Bantam rooster from a local breeder.
I also bought an...
Hi I found this on a website and was wondering if it would be ok to do.
"You can supplement the grit with finely crushed egg shells. To do this, wash the egg shells and allow them to dry completely. Then finely crush the shells with a rolling pin or pulse a couple of times in the food...
I know lots of people have asked this question, but I am asking it with a twist. I used the damp handtowel method.
For those unaware of this method, you dampen a handtowel and wrap the hygrometer for 8 hours. If it is correct the humidity will be 99-100%
Well I am only about 2 hours in and...
So I ordered an incubator and I was so excited when I finally got it that I turned it on straight away (after reading instructions of course )
Outside end with water tray
Top (as you can see it is too hot Inside
as I thought it was...
I have three boxes that are 30cm (app 12") wide x 30cm (app 12") deep x 25cm high (app 10"). My question is, will this be too high for my Brown Leghorns (who are apparently a cross between a normal size and Bantam )? We were thinking of cutting the front a little lower for it to get in.
Also...
So I have gotten my incubator and I have a few question.
Firstly it is a JN106 and the instructions say it is suggested to place the incubator in the foam and packing box to keep warm and save electricity and it is good for even temperature.
Those of you that have used an incubator before, do...
I am getting 10 Brown Leghorn hens and a Brown Leghorn rooster Tuesday or Wednesday and they all come from the same place. I am wondering how long I should give it until I collect the eggs for incubating? I will be collecting for eating but how will I know if they are fertile or is it just trial...
I had my sister call and ask if I wanted to buy some Brown-Legged Bantams but I have no idea what they look like or if they are good layers. I would be interested but then I am not sure what they are like. I still love the idea of getting my Silkie's but they arent pure bred and I want pure bred...
I am going to breed my chickens and I was wondering a few things.
1. I have just found out that the father of my new chickens may be a cross and possibly may not even be a Silkie at all (pic at bottom), can I breed whatever else is in them out of them? I know it sounds confusing
Hubby is a...
I am being given 3 or 4 (not sure how many exactly) Silkie hens and a rooster and I was going to raise my own baby chicks either with a broody hen or incubator. I was wondering, if I get I get a rooster (more likely more then one) can they all be housed together?
I am being given some Silkie hens and a rooster and wasnt sure if I should just stick with Silkie's or if I should get some Rhode Island hens also and cross breed them with the SIlkie Rooster.
The main thing I am unsure of is, if I need to get rid of (sell or giveaway) the fertilized eggs...
