One of my 4 week old chicks, who was 100% fine last night at about 11pm cannot hold his head up this morning.
He seems completely normal apart from the fact he cannot raise his head.
He can turn it right round, so it's almost on back to front, but cannot lift it up.
He can stand, but it...
Last night the incubator was on fine, cooking away & on day 8-9.
I checked this morning & to my horror it was switched off (lead was yanked out) & the eggs had got down to 24 degrees (75 fahrenheit)
It must have been off for a few hours to cool down that much
I'm so gutted as I'd just candled...
I have 3 eggs, 1 of which is still rocking a bit. The other two seem to have stopped moving today
They are 2 days over (3 days from when the others hatched) but have not even pipped yet.
What do you think I should do?
I noticed one of my laying hens was a little quiet yesterday, but today she is very lethargic and her eye lids look a little swollen.
She normally has big round eyes, but they are kind of half closed today.
I saw her have a little diahorrea, which was yellow & white.
She hasn't eaten anything...
I ordered 6 chocolate orpington bantam hatching eggs, from a choc to choc breeding. .
Anyway, 4 didnt make it to lockdown.. but the two that did, hatched as these????
Any ideas on what they could be?
I guess I've either been ripped off or the eggs were mixed up when the seller shipped them!?
I ordered 6 chocolate orpington bantam hatching eggs, from a choc to choc breeding.
Ebay seller with 100% feedback, usually sells light sussex in both sizes & choc orp banties.

I was wondering in someone could help me out
I read somewhere that the earmuff gene can be lethal if doubled up.
Can anyone explain to me how true this is & what is done to avoid it when breeding with earmuffed breeds.
Also, does this problem extend to bearded breeds too?
I'm getting near lockdown (sunday) (wooohoo!) & was having a hard time deciding if i should use egg cartons for the hatch or not?
My eggs are shipped & 15 have made it this far from the 24 I started with, they all look good today & I will candle again quickly right before lockdown.
What do you...
Here are my 8/9 week old silkie chicks
I didn't hatch these, I bought them as 2 week old chicks.
Do any look more pullet-y or roo-y to you? I'm having a hard job sexing them, ideally I'd like to take a couple of the roos to market tomorrow.
Or are they all roos?
Chick 1 below...
I set my shipped eggs this morning, but one from each batch is weeping what looks like egg white (small clear droplets forming on outside of shell)
Should I take those eggs out you think?
I was lucky enough to get a rcom pro for xmas!!
I've got it already so I'll be looking to fill the 'bator with some lovely banty eggs on wednesday
My question is, do you all use the automatic setting for chickens with good results, or do you set your own?
I'm putting in some BF silkies, BF...
I was beginning to think my march '09 marans were roo's disguised as pullets, until I found this today!!!...
Yippee!!
Think it's from my cuckoo girl, as she's the only one of the three young birds squatting
Is it acceptable/humane to wring a birds neck & if so is there any particular technique?
We tried to kill a friends big RIR roo yesterday, my DH pulled it's neck like a rabbit & it went limp.
We strung it up & were just about to cut it's throat to bleed it out & it ran off!!
How I have no idea...
What do you think these tame white chooks might be? I presume they are both girls, but am no expert on this, ha ha!
I would describe them as medium/large size, similar to my marans.
Excuse the dirt on them, they are actually white with black/grey flecks & the legs are light grey with sparse...
I bought some marans pullets at POL back in June/July, all march 09 hatch I believe..
But still no sign of any eggs!
I penned them in for a few weeks just in case they were laying elsewhere, they deffo aren't.
My other marans which are only 2-3 months older lay like mad & have been in lay...
Here are my little blue girls, I've had these lovely ladies about a month. The are only about 20-22 weeks old.
Two have even started to lay.. in fact the two layers have laid an egg a day each for a whole week!!
We have named them according to subtle colour differences in the feathers &...
