the first picture is actual size, the second one is zoomed in.
I thought maybe lice, but from the pictures i have looked at, I am wondering if it is actually too small to be lice and everything says lice congregate around the vent...these little things are everywhere on my girls with a great...
I know the words "amazing" and "Mama Guinea" never are seen together in a sentence. I've had guineas for a year, and the woman I purchased them from assured me I would be back this past Fall for more due to predators, wandering, etc, taking my five.
But what I witnessed today was so, wow...
We had a mama guinea go broody and despite several days of terrible thunderstorms with heavy rain, she was determined to bring her little keets into the world and yesterday she hatched 18 beautiful little babies!
We are located by Concord, NC but we might be able to meet somewhere in the...
We bought these at Tractor Supply yesterday. They are Ameracauna's, but can anybody narrow down what TYPE of Ameracuana they are? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!
Hi everyone,
I think my girl has an impacted crop (I've been torn between egg bound, impacted crop, and sour crop). I felt for an egg and I don't feel anything hard between her legs. I also don't smell an odor indicating sour crop. She's so lethargic and not acting like herself at all. She...
On Wednesday, we brought our bantam "Cubby" (7 months old) to the house because the fluff below her vent was caked up in poop to the point that the eggs were gross and we cleaned her off. She was completely dry when we put her back in the coop Wednesday night. At that point she was laying...
I have 4 silkies, 2 of which are roosters, and 5 bantams. They've all been raised since they were a few days old and now they are 6.5 months old. One of our hens ("Mama") was the first one to start laying a month ago and she layed every day. The last two weeks she stopped and wouldn't leave the...
I think it's so crazy how in 12 hours, the Royal baby of Kate Middleton and Prince William is already so famous! There's a parody page on Twitter with #royalfetus trending, and on Facebook http://facebook.com/royalbumpwatch ...I wonder, are more people interested in this or can't stand this? I...
She is 23 weeks old and just started laying 2 weeks ago, an egg every day! I got her from Cackle Hatchery and from the list of five she could have been, she's definitely not. She's a cochin bantam of some sorts, and so super friendly! Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
I have 4 Silkies: 2 brown and 2 white. 1 white and 1 brown look the same in size and appearance minus color and we assumed those were hens. The other brown and white have a red thing on their head. We are certain the white one is a rooster and since the brown one appears the same, we figured he...
Yesterday a hawk landed on top of the run and all but 5 chicks ran back inside. The last 5 were in the corners frozen still and silent. I immediately shooed the hawk away and went down to check on them. They came out of the corner and the rest went inside except my 2 blonde silkies who can't...
I have four silkies and within the last few days I noticed my brown one has been having a seizure. The episode lasts maybe 20-30 seconds (watching it is gut wrenching though and feels more like 5 minutes long). It happens maybe a few times an hour. He is eating and drinking like normal. It's...
This is the outside of our chicken coop. We want to build a run that is VERY secure. We will be wrapping the whole thing in hardware cloth not half hardware and half chicken wire. I've decided we like trench instead of apron because I feel in the ground would be more secure (Then also planning...
My guinea keets are very, very active. Always running around and away anytime I put my hand in the brooder. Today, my three week old keet is just standing there swaying back and forth, sometimes plopping on the ground and he's not really responding. I was petting him and he wasn't running away...
I've read a lot of forums looking for the answer but there were so many controversial answers. One said to feed them grit when they are a few days old and another said wait a few weeks.
I don't really understand the whole grit thing...I'm very new to chickens. I have 7 that are about 2 weeks...
I've cleaned the pasty butt with warm water, applied vegetable oil, Vaseline, everything. It seems to be clean and clear and now I'm seeing the poor baby is crying and trying to poop so hard. It's heartbreaking to watch. What can I do? What should I feed it? I've been reading forums and haven't...
Title basically says it all. They are a week old and we picked them up today about two hours away. I noticed one has pasty butt and is also shivering. Does it shiver because it's cold or scared? It happens when he's laying under the lamp and when I hold him. I'm concerned he's sicker than just...
At what age can they start having snacks? I have four 4 day olds. What should I give them? Is anything off limits till a certain age? Like fruit?
Thanks!
My 4 chicks hatched on Saturday and they peep like mad sometimes. Does this mean they are distressed or do they just do it to hear themselves talk sometimes? Even now, all 4 are eating and someone or two is peeping! They can't possibly be upset while eating like crazy, right?
