Hello Everyone!
It's been awhile since I've been on the forum, I hope everyone had a nice new year. My husband and I moved into a slightly larger house this fall (bigger than our 500 sq ft cabin) that is within city limits. We had to give our EEs to a friend on a ranch at the time. now new city...
hi!
I have three chickens about 6 months old. A friend offered to give me 3 more laying hens of about the same age. Her flock is very healthy. Can I mix these hens with my EEs? Thanks for your thoughts!
Hi All!
Well my *girls* are finally starting to lay... well I am guessing that 2 of them are based on the number of eggs and the size difference. Since this has started a couple of them have gotten very noisy! They don't crow but kind of make this LOUD guttural dinosaur cry. Is this a roo in...

This is Tigerlily head on! She is such a little...
I have 6 eight week old EEs that are unfortunately still in the house... I have been hoping to get them out side the last couple of weeks but we had one heck of a blizzard in the Colorado Rockies ( 3 feet of snow and cold cold temps)! Well the storm has moved on and the sun is out and temps are...
Hey Everyone!
Well my chicks are about 5 weeks old now and due to recent blizzard are still in the brooder in the house. They don't smell that bad, but I was wondering if I can mix some cedar shavings into the pine shavings to help with the aroma a little bit. I am looking forward to getting...
My brother-in-law and I are building my chicken coop and I have seen lots of great ideas on this site. My question is how tall should I make the coop? It should be noted that I live in Leadville CO at 10,000 ft... it is winter from Nov-May up here and the temps can get pretty low. So I know that...
What is everyone's opinion on wing clipping? My chickens will have a fully enclosed run when they are big. If everyone thinks that clipping is a must then when do you start to do this? my chicks are flying like crazy in their brooder at 3.5 weeks old. Thanks for the input!
I have 6 EEs that are about 3.5 weeks old, crazy looking little critters for sure. One of the white ones seems unable to keep out of the gunk... she always has some poo on her feathers. I keep the brooder clean and they have plenty of room ( the brooder is 4x3 ). So my question is can you wash...
I can't seem to find chick grit! i want to give my chicks some treats to make them happy! I read that some people use sand as chick grit... any suggestions on this? Thanks!
I have 6 EEs that are 2 weeks old. I have been following the temperatures suggested by everyone here and by my Storey's Guide Book. But my chicks seem happiest at about 80-82 degrees. They are also starting to get a lot of feathers! I mean these are some wild looking chicks right now! Is this...
Hello Everyone! I have 6 two week old EEs (all pullets). Over the last couple of days they have started to "fly" at each other and make a lot of noise. There are about 2 that always seem to start it. Is this the starting of a pecking order or are they just starting to feel too closed in?
Thanks Everyone! This really is the most helpful website! I am still getting my chicks settled. But once that is done I will look into these breeders and hopefully find something fuzzy!
I am just wondering why the closest breeder of angora rabbits to Colorado seems to be either CA or OH? I would love to have an angora (I am learning to spin yarn) for wool and love... but Where oh where can they be? I know they can be shipped, but there just has to be someone closer to home.
