    Bumblefoot?

Hi everyone, by way of introduction, I have 8 assorted chickens, 1 Muscovy hen and 2 Drake Pekins. All is great; however, I noticed about a week ago that my white leg horn, Cookie, about 3 years old had what looked like a little abscess between her 2 toes. I picked her up and noticed the...

    Rooster died, now what?

Hi everyone, sadly, I lost my 5 year-old rooster today, who I have had since about a year old. I have 6 hens and was just wondering if the hens are aware he is no longer there? I am not planning on getting another rooster, and I know animals will adjust, but I was just wondering behavior wise...

Should I add a female to my 2 drakes?

Hi everyone. I have 2 pekin drakes that are about 10 months old. They get along great, no signs of aggression at all and follow each other single file everywhere around the yard. They free range all day with my 7 hens and 1 rooster. At night, they file into the chicken coop and I have an x...

    Pekin Drake Questions

Hi everyone, just a few questions if anyone can help. I have 2 male Pekins who are the cutest ever. One of them has feathers sprouting on his legs, how come the other doesn't? Also, one of them always comes running up behind me and it's hysterical, but I don't know if he is doing this to be...

Do ducks & chickens get along?

My 2 drake Pekins are in my coop at night with my 7 hens and rooster, but the ducks are in an x pen within the coop because I have a one-legged hen that sleeps on the floor and I worry the ducks might mess with her. Other than that, they free range all day together and all file in the coop at dusk.

What do you do with your spoiled wood shavings when changing the pen?

I never used shavings when our baby Pekins were inside. I got a huge dog crate and put hay inside with a small bowl if water with a rock in it so it wouldn't spill over. I also put a box inside the dog crate so they would get used to going in a house. Every am, I would take out the hay and...

    Worms .... Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (pic Attached)

Oh God, with so many animals, how do I pinpoint who needs the treatment? I called the vet and she said I would need to treat all 3 cats separately with a powder in each of their food. My dog definitely doesn't have them, he is not around the cats or really outside at all and was inside when I...

    Worms .... Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (pic Attached)

I just went outside to give my chickens some left over yellow cake and noticed this mound on my door step. I have 7 chickens, 1 rooster, 2 Pekin ducks and 3 outdoor cats. I am freaking out because I don't know if this is from the cats or from my chickens. All my chickens are acting totally...

Snapping turtle removed from pond - but ducks will not go back in pond

My 2 pekins were nipped incessantly by our Koi in their pond and just stopped one day from ever going back in. A few days after that, I picked one up and manually put him back in the pond and he ran out like holy terror. That was about 6 weeks ago and they have never gone back in.

Do you have a Duck under Your Chix Coop??

Me 2 pekins are in with my 7 hens and 1 roo in our chicken coop which is 8 x 8. We don't let them free roam in the coop. They are in an x pen in the corner of the coop and then everyone free ranges during the day.

Injured Duck -- I don't think it will survive

Please being your duck to the vet! An infection may set in and he is probably in a lot of pain. One of my cats brought home a wild bunny with 2 back broken legs and he was eating a little too. The duck can be saved, trust me on this one, but it must be seen. I rescued a hen from a local farm...

    Pics of my duck hut...finally

Wow! Thanks for the information. I wasn't sure about the hay. I have a horse so I have a constant source of hay available and actually the straw is harder to come by. Question: I don't feed or water in my coop at all either for my hens, but I do keep a bucket of water in a horse bucket in...

    Pen Floor

My 2 pekin ducks are housed with my 7 hens and 1 roo in our 8 x 8 chicken coop. We have a concrete floor with a drain in the center and shavings under the roost pole with straw in the nesting boxes. In the right corner, we have an x pen for the ducks so they don't have free roam in the coop...

    Free Ranging

I was told recently that a hawk can take a duck easily lifting them off the ground and this person has Pekins. Our ducks roam with our chickens all day so we have the benefit of a very diligent rooster.

    Will ducks kill my koi?

So sorry for your loss. I have a pond smaller than yours with about 4 huge koi and about 8 goldfish, carp, etc. I have 2 6 month Pekins. When the ducks discovered the pond, the water turned from clear to pea soup in only a few days. The ducks would dive for the fish, but I feel it was more...
