I had a chicken not too long ago that manage to rip half of it's toe off by getting caught on something. I soaked her foot, cleaned it out, put a bunch of antibiotic ointment on it and wrapped it well with gauze and let it be. She's perfectly fine today. If you can post a pic that'd help, but...
"Does this poop look funny?"
"Go feed these worms to the ladies"
"Someone get the girls out of the grill!"
"...The chicken ate my food....--again.."
"QUIT GROWLING AT ME I'M STILL GOING TO TAKE YOUR EGGS!"
These are my first ducks, too! Just make sure they have room to run, and try putting Poly Vi Sol (Without Iron) in their water. I'm doing this currently and my duck is already walking better. It looks like a niacin deficiency. You'd have to google how much, because I'm not 100% sure. I've been...
First, post a picture. It helps. Second, how big is there cage? Third, are you sure its broken, or is she just walking funny on it? Niacin deficiency in ducklings can cause them to walk weird. I just had to deal with this with my ducklings.
One of my chicks hatched out with her yolk sack still attached. It was probably about the size of a nickel? Well, she ruptured it. I had no choice but to cut it off and put her back (It was just weighing her down and getting her all goopy), a little while later her intestines started coming out...
I had a little fella hatch today, and it's yolk sack hadn't absorbed fully. I freaked out when I saw her. I picked her up and put her in a container where she wouldn't drag it around and puncture it to see if it'd absorb. Well.. She popped it. So I clamped it off and cut it off. Her navel seemed...
I had a temp spike to 110 for who knows how long on day 5 when I was incubating 5 silkie eggs, I spent the whole night telling myself what a bonehead I was for not paying attention and worrying because I thought they would die, >.< but they all hatched! So, I agree with the others. Leave them in...
Just continue on like normal. That's what I did. This happened to me on one of my hatches, and then on day 18 I got a chick! I was shocked because I didn't even expect the little bugger to hatch for a few more days! :)
I don't really know what to do. You can take the chicks out whenever you want, but you just have to make sure you don't lose your moisture. I usually leave them in there (for the night if they hatched at night, or for the day if they hatched during the day) and then I set them in their brooder...
All these cute little chicks being hatched made me want to break out my incubator. Watching them hatch is so exciting. Around here I'll have 5-6 people gathered around the incubator watching them when they hatch. Congrats on the chicks!
Heres their brooder:
There is wire underneath the waterer, so it any splashed drops into a pan below, but you can't really see it because I threw a couple old towels in there last second after they got here. They were picking at the bedding so I threw it down. I've heard you can let ducklings...
Brooder Ideas were the first thing I needed, but I think I've found an idea I can use for these babies. I'll have to make a couple for the chicks too, but I've done that 4 times before. Could you explain the duck waterer gallon thing? We have plenty of leftover milk jugs! as for feed, they can...
We'll be getting 4 ducklings here in the next few days, but I know nothing about them. Any advice on how to raise ducklings? We'll be getting chicks too.
Can someone name a few that would definitely be in a TSC store? Trying to make a chicken first aid kit here since we don't have any vets that are willing to take a look at chickens.
She's sleeping a lot, and her poop is green. That's all I have for now. She won't even open her eyes until i pet her. anyone know what is wrong with her?! :(
