I also "helped" two chicks, so far they are still with us but the smallest looks pretty weak... So thats a total of 2 blue mottled and (the ones I helped) are black mottled.
So, who wants to try this all again?
I have another pip! Happened about 1-1:30am or thereabouts, and a 4th one is (not pipped) BUT rocking and I hear cheeping now....So its now officially day 22, I am having faith that by morning...oh wait, it IS morning that I may have 1 or two more...

Go Chickies! Sending good hatch vibes to Cloverleaf too
Moving into day 22, I now hear peeping from one of the remaining 6 eggs...one was rocking and moving around too. Why oh why wont those buggers just PIP already
Update: First blue mottled cochin chick enjoying his new digs in the brooder, and one more egg pipped about 9am, zipping by 10am and hatched by 12:30pm! He's a blue mottled too, cute as a bug!
So I had an early hatcher, an on-time hatcher, and the rest (??) I wonder if there is hope for them...

My last few hatches have all had that "U" shape. I started tracing the aircell with a pencil at day 1 , 10, 18 to see if it made any difference in hatchability or WHERE the chick hatched. It didn't seem to make a difference, so don't give up hope!
I think I've been getting the "U"...

Have you had success with your humidity in that range?
I don't want to drown mine, but hope it's slick enough en there for them to manuever around. Mine have lots to breat with in their air cell!
Well, trying to hold on to the "semi-dry" hatch this time, in previous hatches I have...
Well I'm officially in lock down...ugg, this is stressful I candled quickly and frankly I only saw movement in one but maybe the other kids were sleeping Ended up setting the 8, other 2 I tossed. So we shall see. Oh, going to be running humidity at 55-58 or there abouts. Good Luck everyone...
So is everyone sticking with about 65% for lockdown? I was trying a "dry" hatch, tried to keep it in low-mid 40s days 1-17 and (I had thought) 55% but no higher on days 18-21.....??
Ok, here are my candling results.....
10 Shipped blue and black mottled Cochin eggs, from MI to AZ
6 look good
2 clears
2 possible quitters but will recheck
I have 5 thermometers, (3 digital and 2 dial) in the hovabator... A few nights ago, I showed a HUGE spike on 2 of the digitals on the min/Max reading. Now, I check these things like every 2 hours when I'm home, right before bed and first thing in the morning....Its been consistently reading...

I might have missed this, but are we all dealing with shipped eggs or a combination of both? It would be interesting to note the percentage of shipped egg hatches/home bred hatches too, I think.. Log me down for Shipped Eggs (from MI)
I also plan to do the first candle on Dec 21st (10th day).....I'm running at 99.1-99.7 (forced air) and about 44-46 percent humidity.....Good luck every one!!!
