Not so good for me. Only one hatched. I have done this before, so I don't know what happened. I thought that the temps and humidity were great this time. On well, I turned off the incubator. The good news is that I have some more eggs coming this week! I would like some suggestions, I...

It's day 21ish. I only have one that has pipped yesterday. It is a BCM and it is still trying to hatch. But nothing else so far. My question is, how long should I wait to get rid of the eggs? and How do I take care of a single chick? My friend has a broody hen, could we sneak the chick...

EdistoChicks ~ Some of my eggs were seeping goop early in the hatch. I got them out no problem. At some point, when I was candling the others, I put one egg back in the turner, where there was some old goop. That egg got stuck and there was no way to get it out without breaking the egg...

Back to the hatching! I will put them in lock down tonight. If I use egg cartons, I should cut the bottoms out, and the sides. But put the eggs on their sides or big side up? Anyone got a picture?

OK, so do you have to teach the chickens how to get the water? That would be the best thing to have. I hang my waterers, but they still manage to get dirt in it! (We have Smart water too, doesn't really make me smart!)

I go into lock down tonight. I have 7 Exchequer Leghorns, left from 14. (2 were cracked on arrival, 2 more were seeping, and 3 were clear on day 10,) 6 BCM out of 7, 5 blue Orpington's out of 7. Those are all shipped eggs. I also put in 3 Brahma X BCM roo, and 3 Cuckoo Marans X BCM roo's...

WOW, be careful! We live in the mountains and have seen quite a few rattlers this year. I just saw an episode of Man vs. Wild yesterday and apparently rattlers can strike faster then the human eye can see. And they are responsible for many human deaths! Oh, and yes my incubator is...

Do you ever help them out of the eggs? I hatched some Marans, and decided to help them out. The first one died during the night, her face was out when we went to bed. So we were too nervous to let the others struggle. With this hatch, I would like to let nature take it's course.

Thanks, I should be right in the zone! I don't know what is going on in the incubator. I can't see through most of the eggs. I even have the old slide projector out and rigged up for candling. The BCM eggs are really dark!

What is the humidity supposed to be in the incubator? For the first 18 days? Then at lock down?

What does everyone do with all the Chicks? Keep them? I would like to hatch more, if I had some good homes for them! I can only keep so many! But I love to hatch.......

I have about 12 Exchequer leghorns left. I got 16, and 2 were broken when they arrived. Then I smelled something funny coming from the bator. So when I checked two of the eggs were "seeping" What could have caused this? (Do you think that they were somehow broken and I did not notice at...

What's the earliest that I can candle the eggs? I am excited, because I have hatched Marans, (very hard to see) and some Olive eggers (still a colored egg) and now I have 14 Exchequer leghorns in the bator. (white eggs) They should be easy to see! I also have six BCM's and six blue...

That's my problem too! No extra bator, or broody hen. With just one day, I thought that I would go a half a day long for one batch, then half a day early for the other batch. Four days, well.....

I got my shipped eggs in two batches. Still waiting for the third batch. I thought that I was going to get them at the same time. By Saturday I thought I should put the dozen Exchequer Leghorns in the bator. So I did. Then the batch of BCM and Blue Orpington's, six each arrived. I put...

I have posted this before. You can use an old slide projector to candle dark eggs. The light is really strong! It worked really well on my Marans eggs.
