Mhamilton, congrats on those that have hatched. I gave a first time broody shipped eggs and let her work her magic. She hatched all 6 that showed development at day 10. I was worried she wasn't turning them rough but things worked out fie.

I do most of the time, but when they are all going at the same time it can be a little much! DH is a light sleeper and claims to hear them but I've also gone upstairs while they are crowing and he's fast asleep. We have neighbors kinda close so I do try to keep the noise down.

Since they are only pet quality I don't breed many. Only small hatches, at least they don't have to be shipped, unlike hatchery chicks.

Mine are from shanshan51, they go broody at egg song! They did this at least 3 times last year. The offspring are just as broody.

Are they separated from the Leghorns? If so it may be stress, my egg numbers go way down if they are dealing with nighttime visits from rats! I've seen the rats running over their backs while they are on the roost at night. We had a heavy rain last week and the rodents found the dry areas...

I've got 6 foot fences all around my place but I still worry about other dogs. My dogs are fine with the chickens, but my neighbors dogs have ganged up on me and have nipped my daughter while walking home.

Chickens eating chickens is why I said I would never have chickens for 40 years. When I did agree to having chickens they could not be white ones!

I won't even say "straight run", I list them as "unsexed" just in case they don't know what straight run is.

I ended up with a good mix of colors with this hatch, excited about the splashs. I go for the blues but so many people want the splash.

This is about the most accurate colored picture I've got of him, then again we all have different settings on our equipment, so who knows. I do have pullets that are brassy to me, oh well, they still lay anyway.

I'm wondering what you think of Dude. In these pictures he is only 10 months old, still has some filling out to do. I wish he had a higher wing carriage and a better comb. I would also like to see more width on the tail feathers. Sorry for the messy greenhouse pictures, didn't feel like...
