I have 11 frizzled growing out from 3-5 weeks. Seeing a whole LOT of cockerels in the bunch though! I know frizzle isn't sex linked but dang, I looked it up today just to be sure! There's got to be at least one or two pullets in the bunch right?!?!
I think they are pullets but they seem to both have single combs, meaning they might not have the blue gene and will probably lay brown eggs. At least thats my understanding.
Drum roll . . . . . . . . . .
Its a Boy!!! My BF woke me up at 5 am this morning saying he heard a weird noise outside, kind of like a woman screaming. I hopped out of bed and ran barefoot to the coop. Well sure enough these were Bubba's first crowing attempts. I sure hope he gets to...
Hmmmm, that makes sense. This birds mother was a frizzle solid blue OE x barred OE roo. So the resulting female chick would get one copy of barring from the father. The resulting male chick should also only be able to get one copy of barring since mom was solid. So I dont know why this bird...
Thanks!! I do see spur buds developing and legs are thick, but I know this doesnt always mean anything. As for the coloring, only one of the parents was barred which results in the lighter barring (this is sex linked in BRs but not an indicator of gender here). I still think it must be a roo...
members on this thread proclaimed my OE "bubba" a roo months ago. But on a separate thread I made to document his/her progress people are still saying pullet! 19 weeks, no crowing, mounting or aggressive behavior of any kind. Here is the other thread in case you want to see older photos ;)...
I think this is a pullet. I had one very similar and the orange first started on the shoulders and I got scared but then it spread to an overall pattern. Shes a very pretty gal now.
I'd love to get some opinions on my 9 week frizzle EE. The wattles developed early so I thought roo but the comb hasnt grown much. And no dark red patches on the wings.
S/He is a blue frizzle EE x Barred OE. So my understanding is there is no chance of double barring genes so the lighter color barring should not signify gender as it does where roos have double barring like barred rocks. He is blue not black so that may also contribute to why he looks lighter...
Yes it was an overcast Seattle day so the colors are probably a bit oversaturated. S/he is pretty red but no more so than my Marans or BLRW pullets of the same age. Most of my pullets seem to get red pretty early. I would have expected more comb growth by now for a male. I cant keep a roo...
This Olive Egger is 12 weeks. I thought it was a boy but there has been no crowing or roo behavior. I would have expected some crows by now since I dont have any other rooster. What do you all think?
