    Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

MPC has their own sexing people right on site at Meyers. they work for MPC, not Meyers, so most likely when it says "males only" it's because MPC has already contracted with Meyers for a percentage of the females of certain breeds. And most certainly for most bantam females. The ratio is usually...

    Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

The Dorking will be female. I also ordered a Spitzhauben that I have been trying to get for 6 months. Also a White Sultan to replace the one that died after a day. I have another order for a buff polish and gold laced Wyandotte, but I may cancel that one. Wheaten has perked up. Still not out...

    Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I've been trying to upload pics for you, but they never upload totally. Don't know what the problem is. In the meantime I had a 2 week old Basque die. For no apparent reason. Have no idea what is going on this week. I've never had a chick die except for a less than 12 hour old Sultan from MH...

Good news! Or GREAT news! The Wheaten Ameraucana that looked not to last through the evening yesterday, which made it through the night and looked a bit better this morning ... is now walking around almost normally. Still a bit shakey, but I haven't seen her face down all day and her eyes are...

Golden Cuckoo is on my list for next year for sure. I have a Dorking ordered for pick up in August. I have a dozen BLRW eggs in the incubator due to hatch June 25th. If I have a good hatch and I can determine sex fairly quickly, I'd be glad to sell you one. I also have some Black Copper Marans...

    Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Well, morning has come and she's still hanging in there! I was totally prepared to check her this morning and have it be sad news. Not out of the woods yet, but her eyes are at least open and her head is off of the floor.

I' I've put the vitamin mix they have in the water and dunk her beak every half hour. I mixed up some GroGel, too. Also mashed up egg yolk. Also gave nutridrench directly into her mouth, as directed. Put her in by herself with a mirror, so the others don't trample her, too.

    Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Here's a tip ... Check every day on the Meyer site on the left side where it says "Available Now." Especially very early Monday mornings. If they have hatches that over produce, then they have a bunch of cool chicks available at the last minute. Or if they have chicks that hatch late, they will...

I have found a very reliable way to tell when a hen will lay. Turn her on her back and find her hip bones. If you can fit 3 fingers between those 2 bones then she will lay within the week usually. 2 fingers means within a month most likely. 2 1/2 fingers means a few weeks. Plus pacing outside...

    Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Hazel hatched 12/16/12 and has been laying for about a month, so she was about 4 1/2 months. Hermione and Hedwig I bought as started pullets from Meyer and they were supposed to be between 16 - 20 weeks old at the time. I picked them up April 28th I think. They started laying within a week of...

    Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I lucked out with my recent Meyer easter eggers. One lays a darker moss green, one lays a green with a bluish tint and one lays a very very blue egg. Most of the time they are huge and most of the time are double yolkers. One was a triple yolker recently. And usually each gives me 6 a week.I...

Thanks for all your opinions about Salmon Faverolles! Maybe it's a typo on the Meyer page. At any rate I am going to give one a try. Very pretty and with everyone's comments about how sweet they are, I think a pullet SF would fit in nicely with my flock plan for coop #2. So far this includes...

    Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Meyer actual says they can become aggressive TOWARDS other breeds. I have a very mixed flock, no two birds are alike, except for the 3 Easter Eggers, so trying to figure out if SF would be a good addition or not. They are so very pretty, plus supposedly docile and good with kids.

Yay! I just snagged a Wheaten Ameraucana and a Speckled Sussex for June 10th pick up at Meyer! They have had some crazy availability this week of some majorly hard to find birds. I missed out Monday on some great birds, but this obsession of mine led me back to their site today. Yay!

My original 7 last December were all females. My next order of 3 in March has an obvious male. My other March order is yet to be determined.

Yay! Have only had my two Meyer Easter Egger Started Pullets for 10 days and one of them is already laying! A lovely Bluish Green. Quite small, but it's only the first one, so I'm sure the size will increase soon. PLUS, one of my original Meyers flock from December also laid for the first time...
