I certainly would plant it if I lived in zone 7!. It may not come up at the 'appropriate' time, but it will germinate.

Enjoy while you are young! I would love to be able to do everything by hand, but a chainsaw and tractor are necessities for cutting wood etc. Other than that we really don't have too much in the way of big equipment.

It sounds like Tom Tom is a potential problem for you. The second cockerel seems to realize who's the boss. I had to dispatch a feisty cockerel recently. He would peck at my hand, rush me and was ugly to the other birds. Keep an eye open, he may be destined for the pot...

As with humans - all things in moderation! I have read that chickens should never eat rhubarb leaves...my new pullets reduced my rhubarb plants to tatters over the summer. They are still alive & producing eggs!

You could certainly grow over your leach field, the grain would love the extra moisture. Right over the septic is feasible as long as you know you aren't going to need to access the septic.

Be careful with the horseradish, you might be infested with it after a couple of years! Plant it in a contained area, it spreads like mint!!

Wow! You sound like you never sleep! My partner & I try to do as much as we can - growing, harvesting etc. Only chickens at the moment, but hoping to add ducks soon. I have been unsuccessful with bees, but hope to try them again next year. Neither of us are 'young 'uns' and age does take...

I can spicy beets too! They are so good........ I don't know if you can reuse them - give it a go, but don't let the kids chew on them first not sure the vinegar would kill the bacteria. Let us know how it works out, btw Welcome to the thread

It's a great feeling isn't it? Raising your own stuff, bartering for what you need. Makes you wish we could 'do away' with Gov't and such - how much cheaper living would be!

Bummer! Hope things improve soon....we have been thinking about rabbits. It will be much later this year/early next since we are adding ducks soon. There is only so much one woman can build! Sending good thoughts your way,

They certainly are persistent little buggers! We have 2 cats and still have a couple of mice in the house! Not sure if they live here or if the cat brings them home to play with!! How are you? Haven't been here for a while....

I count my blessings everyday. We moved from a small, dysfunctional village to 15 acres, nearest neighbor 1/4 mile away As lovely as our current neighbors are, space makes for great peace....
