I know Josh has some nice looking babies - I have six of them that came from one of his free-range broodies! Mine are growing nicely!

I had so much fun at ON! It was so great to put faces with so many names. I realized when I got back home that I did not take pictures of anyone! I hope I will see you all at future shows and you will have to remind me to get pictures instead of just jabbering! I was so excited talking to you...

They are very nice chicks....one of the cockerels is really growing quickly. You will be seeing more of them as I have picked a couple of them that I believe will be good enough to show next spring! I will count on Josh and Joe to tell me if I have picked the right ones for showing!

I am really looking forward to ON....I hope our birds are all in great shape for the show and I really am looking forward to talking to all you folks who appreciate chickens as much as we do! I want to learn as much as possible during the show! My granddaughter is so excited - we have quite a...

Just want to tell you that the one cockerel that I didn't think was the best but that you guys told me was better at EOP show last month - all of a sudden that cockerel has started growing into himself! I checked all of my cockerals today and he is gaining like crazy! He really does look better...

Do you let the birds you use for shows free-range or do you keep them in cages or in smaller pens? My Buckeyes do follow me all around outside - they never run in fear and the my roosters are always very nice and know they can't breed when I am around. All I have to do is holler their names and...

Mostly I need to know how to get them all accustomed to being in the small cages at the shows. I have one Roo that is a very handsome fellow when he is out here running around, but I put him in a cage and he actually looks sick he droops so much! His tail goes down and he kind of hunkers over...

Ok, question here - how do you prepare your Buckeyes for a show as big as Nationals? I still have mine out running around in the pasture - I think it would really depress them if I put them in cages! They are so friendly but do I need to do more to make them happy and content when they are in...

Thanks to all the wonderful people who have been so helpful and encouraging to us - we love everything about our Buckeyes and want to work on Nettie's visions into what makes a perfect chicken! The little guys we got from the EOPA show are fitting in very well and have decided they are big...

That's exactly why I am so excited to have my 10 year old granddaughter have such a growing interest in how to breed better birds. She is getting to understand the standards almost better than I because she studies the Standard of Perfection with her best friend and they are now coming up with...

Thank you very much for posting this for me - I haven't quite got the hang of posting pix very well yet! This is my 10 year old granddaughter Kayleigh and she has been helping me with my chickens in earnest for the past 3 years. The pullet was one we hatched in late April and is named "Penny"...

Thank you very much - they are very nice chicks and seem to be happy! I have put electrolytes in their water so they wouldn't be stressed. Um - they are better than being in the coop with my flock - they are in my fully enclosed back porch in a large dog kennel........they are very happy and...

My friend won the Buckeye chick raffle at the EOPA show and surprised me with them! Does anyone know the breeder? They are nice little chicks! I have an oldler Buckeye hen that is lonesome because her mate just died from injuries inflicted by another rooster that got into his pen and and now she...

Yep it was a great show - I can see which of our Buckeyes we are going to breed together next spring - my granddaughter did a great job with a cockerel and a pullet - even Joe thought they might have some promise! So, the Bucks are coming home today to run around a little bit and grow more...

Thank you for the positive encouragement! You are right Poltroon, I enjoy my birds and do want to hear what others think, but I still love the breed, love their personalities, love their hardiness in our miserable winters and just plain love them! My granddaughter is as scared as I am, but I...

Anyone going to the show at Lima next week? My granddaughter is taking a pair of young Buckeyes and I am taking a mature pair. I am scared to pieces! What if I find out that my Buckeyes aren't as good as I think they are???!!!!! It is my first show and I understand there are a lot of Bucks...

So sorry to hear about your loss - today hasn't been a good day for Buckeyes. I had a as of yet unidentified predator - either a dog the size of a St. Bernard or a possible wolf - who tore the door off of one of my little breeder huts and killed Lady, an absolutely beautiful Buckeye. The...

Even with -35 wind chills and stead below zero temperatures, my Buckeye girls are still giving me a dozen eggs a day! Bless their hearts - they are good girls! I have them shut in the barn right now - don't want them to get out in a snow drift! The last day I let them out was Sunday and when it...
