Just wanted to share a pic of one of my Splash Copper Roos from the Pink eggs I hatched back in March. He lives nearby now... I re-homed him to a nice woman a couple of towns away. He's 31 weeks here, but I gave him away at about 18 weeks. He's a beauty, I think!

A good friend of mine is a documentary photographer / active protester who is heavily involved in the whole OWS events taking place... Anyway, I digress - back to the Marans

People ship eggs to people all of the time it seems... Are people just ignoring the regulations? (not that I have a problem with that)
Ever so politely and no disrepect or stones thrown anywhere or to anyone....but to be very honest with you Steve.....yes.
I don't mean anything by it...

All I can say is call the USDA and speak with the person in charge of the NPIP program...when I did, they could not tell me how these regulations are being enforced and could not tell me how each state was suppose to implement these regs either. I asked if this was not the...

Cool. Do you plan on selling eggs in the future?
I'm hoping so...timeline depends on how quickly I can get all the NPIP stuff sorted...and I have a certain standard I want to get them to before I offer any for sale. The first batch of blue birchens I got ended up being pretty...

I'll be the first to admit that it can be hard to find truly quality blue birchens or even black birchens for that matter. I've heard there are elusive very dark egg laying blue birchens, but have yet to actually ever see any. So, I'm working on developing some. I have 4 lines running...

I have gotten 3 eggs so far from my BCM. Your egg on the right looks exactly like the one I got today. Slight bit of sheen/gloss... My first 2 were a very matte finish. The color is spot on. Let me know what color it is on the chart. I hope they darken a bit with time, but I am not...

Thanks and Yes. She does have very dark eyes... No plans on breeding so no biggy to me - in fact it adds to her personality somewhat. Dark eyes, weird comb - still a beauty!
Kim~ Yes. Either way I am very happy with them... It is hard because short of standing by the coop all day it takes time to determine who is doing what The BCM IS very pretty, and big too.

Funny, the people over on the Wellie Forum are leaning towards them being Wellie Eggs - due to the Terra Cotta tone and lack of glossiness/sheen. Time will tell...
Thanks,
Steve
My first 2 Marans Eggs. Same bird - BCM. The 2 eggs 2nd from left... will they get darker as she matures a bit? At least I think they are - not sure who is laying yet... I know one Wellie is(third from left)
from this girl here...

Here she is about a week ago... Do they sometimes start with such little 'inking'/coating at the start? Yours appears much more coated... Do you think that the smear is blood or possibly some of the 'ink'?
FYI: the bottom of the egg in the picture is shadowed... not coated with bloom...

Congrats on the first egg! Photo is a must to identify. Sometimes their first eggs are not dark, but they will or can have specks and yes it can take some time for their ink jets to warm up and yes they can darken upon continued laying. Is it really pointy or is it slightly rounder? All...
