➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Wow was my day sucky. My shanty aviary tarp roof almost collapsed in and when i dumped the water to reinforce it...it collapsed INNNNN. Almost drowned/snapped the necks of a couple babies in between my feet and drenched my whole front. Plus the beat plate got splashed. Miracle we didnt get zapped. HATE early heavy rains. Gonna ask around about getting help with a real roof after I get back from the egg workshop.
:hugs we have had similar concerns regarding snow and ice possibilities of ripping the netting. the vinyl corrugated roofing that we used on the rabbit cages is $15 per 2x8 sheet (it’s like metal roofing but without the sharp edges) maybe something like that would work for your aviary??

@Texas Kiki yeah, I do the same with the light. And I have the same scale as yours!
@Matieus27 I have an ovascope too and it works the same with both-flash light as Kiki showed and the ovascope.
Great! I don't think I've seen anyone mention using that for quail eggs yet. I'm glad to hear it does work.

Yikes.

Is everyone ok?

@Matieus27 if you set the eggs on Friday, 13th (same as me) then Lockdown is Sept 27 and the hatch date is Sept 30... This is per my calendar. I haven't candled mine yet
Yes.

Ok, nothing to do with hatching but just thought of sharing. I had a female run away on Sept 6th. I chased after her with the net (it was a FUNNY thing to watch me chasing after a quail) but she hid in my cousin's garden where the grass is above a meter high, so I left it. She didn't come back and I thought she has joined the wild ones and flew to Africa. Last night (Sept 16th) my cousin found her in his garden in a real bad condition almost dead from dehydration. I warmed her up and gave her water with a syringe. After an hour she started drinking herself. She still cannot walk but drinks a lot of water and it looks like she is recovering. I'll see how she is when I get back home tonight. I was surprised though that she survived 10 days without water (it hasn't rained) in the wild.

I hope she makes it! Let us know how it goes.

@Texas Kiki so I have set 72 in total on Sept 13th.
55 - golden Manchurians (both parents are golden Manchurians). I hope I don't hit the 30% lethal...
10 - father is golden Manchurian, mother's are mix.
7 - father Tuxedo, mother Pharaoh.. these would be interesting...
Great.
