The Roux female is not used in sex links because she cannot pass her Roux gene on to her daughters. She will pass her Roux gene to all of her male offspring. All of the Pharaoh males produced by your planned mating will have a single hidden Roux gene. All of the Roux males produced from your planned mating will be pure Roux since they have to have two copies for the trait to be shown. All of the Pharaoh females produced will be pure Pharaohs because if they had one Roux gene they would be Roux. All of the Roux females will be Roux.

Since there will be both sexes of each variety, they will not be sex linked.

For sex links to work, they only work for the first generation. They also only work using the male homozygous for the recessive gene being crossed with the female that is showing the dominant trait. Breeding the female with the recessive sex linked trait to a male with the dominant trait with only produce offspring with the dominant trait. The female offspring will be pure for the dominant trait while the male offspring will be phenotypically the dominant trait but genotypically they will be heterozygous for the recessive trait.
In the video, he refers to Egyptians and Pharaohs. I assume that @CoturnixComplex is referring to the Egyptians as Roux.

Also I'm dead. Left house at 6am. Workshop was at 10am. Got there 2 mins prior to starting. Was super informative and I'm going to set up a bleaching carwash style sanitizing station at my front gate. Maybe it will dissuade people from wanting to see my aviary. Class ended at 3:30ish and I got sidetracked with talking to the CDFA peeps. I then tried to make contact with salmon guy. No luck. But I went out to the coast anyway because salt and fog are good for your soul. Hung around and took some pics, got some ice cream and chicago hot dogs, then the fog was really getting heavy so off I went back inland. I finally got back on the road at dusk and no commute traffic!!! Got home at 10:45 and passed out until my burnt ass hand started throbbing...

:hugs we have had similar concerns regarding snow and ice possibilities of ripping the netting. the vinyl corrugated roofing that we used on the rabbit cages is $15 per 2x8 sheet (it’s like metal roofing but without the sharp edges) maybe something like that would work for your aviary??
My issue is my uncle did not peak the roof. He said the natural slope of the hill would be enough. Tis 5000% not even close. I've got to find someone to build a peak. Once that's done I'll be putting the clear corrugated stuff for roofing with gutters and maybe rainwater collection tanks...probably not tho if I want to have room for breeder pens.

Yikes.

Is everyone ok?
Yes for the most part. Mom was in charge of them today and apparently the stress from the great flood is making the little mfers peck each others more. @Nabiki and a nice dude at the thing told me about this spray I've got to grab at tsc in the morning.
I do have them NEED to get good pics

Sounds like your day was like mine :hugs Still tryn to get caught up.
Terrible when things go unexpectedly and horribly awry...PPLUS it's been getting into the low 40s already! I hope my little bald spot dweebs are being smart and using their heat caves...
Well, we just got done with our huge long one, but then we popped to the city to visit a friend before she left for Sydney again just now, next weekend I'm picking up a rabbit 150 miles away, the weekend after that it's back to the city for our anniversary trip, and then I've got to get my butt in gear Halloween planning.

I love them too! Just, like, down the block. Not so much in our driveway.

Noooo! Yeah, the weather has officially begun here. That was quite a drenching we got. I'm glad you're all okay!
Stop taking trips you're crazyyy! I'm not excited for snow at ALLLLL.
It was great meeting @el dorado quail today. I learned a lot at the seminar.

I just fired up the incubator. I have a batch of eggs arriving on Friday. I think I'm going to sneak a few of the eggs from my covey to see what hatches.
:wee

I can label the eggs, but how will I keep track of which chicks hatch from which eggs?!
:barnie
It was fun! But next time I think I'm gonna need a nap haha. Do you have a webcam you can monitor the hatch with? You could figure out who hatched and color their toe nails like blue and purple?

Did y'all take a picture together?
We were too in the bird zone.
It didn't even occur to me.
Next time!

Ok, picture-lovers :) these 2 runts are 22 days old now.. they love to sleep on their backs on my lap. They are not quite gold, but I cannot tell what other color they have... Or maybe the gold will come later? Maybe silver. I cannot tell if they are male or a female yet.

Last post for today... I am thinking of doing the following:
I have eggs A which are supposed to Lockdown soon. I have eggs B which will be at day 5 that day. I am thinking of: removing eggs A from the turners and placing them on the net in the incubator. Keep eggs B in the turners (they will keep turning). Increase humidity to 60-70%. As soon as eggs A hatch, decrease humidity to 30-45% and continue hatching eggs B. I am almost sure it will work, plus I only have 8 eggs B so even if they all die, they are from my own, so not a big loss.

So my second generation any roux males i would get would be pure roux then I breed those to the female roux and I will essentially have pure roux? Same would go for the pharaoh because if a female has one roux gene she shows it. So essentially my theory is correct? At third generation you could possibly breed for sex links right.

Muddy have you checked out my feed Google sheet which can be found in my signature.

There are direct links to each feed manufacturers website in each feed name.
yes i’ve looked at them but can’t find where i can buy anything locally....as rk and tsc only have meatbird. i can sometimes get manna pro gamebird showbird but only 5lb bags. i can special order from rk and/or order online but overall birds have done well on meatbird so i’ve been kinda lazy about researching special orders
