Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.@Texas Kiki are you saying 50% humidity is enough for lockdown?
@Nabiki look what I bought today from the 1$ shop as a divider in the incubator..

Also I'm dead. Left house at 6am. Workshop was at 10am. Got there 2 mins prior to starting. Was super informative and I'm going to set up a bleaching carwash style sanitizing station at my front gate. Maybe it will dissuade people from wanting to see my aviary. Class ended at 3:30ish and I got sidetracked with talking to the CDFA peeps. I then tried to make contact with salmon guy. No luck. But I went out to the coast anyway because salt and fog are good for your soul. Hung around and took some pics, got some ice cream and chicago hot dogs, then the fog was really getting heavy so off I went back inland. I finally got back on the road at dusk and no commute traffic!!! Got home at 10:45 and passed out until my burnt ass hand started throbbing...
My issue is my uncle did not peak the roof. He said the natural slope of the hill would be enough. Tis 5000% not even close. I've got to find someone to build a peak. Once that's done I'll be putting the clear corrugated stuff for roofing with gutters and maybe rainwater collection tanks...probably not tho if I want to have room for breeder pens.
Yes for the most part. Mom was in charge of them today and apparently the stress from the great flood is making the little mfers peck each others more. @Nabiki and a nice dude at the thing told me about this spray I've got to grab at tsc in the morning.
Terrible when things go unexpectedly and horribly awry...PPLUS it's been getting into the low 40s already! I hope my little bald spot dweebs are being smart and using their heat caves...
Stop taking trips you're crazyyy! I'm not excited for snow at ALLLLL.
It was fun! But next time I think I'm gonna need a nap haha. Do you have a webcam you can monitor the hatch with? You could figure out who hatched and color their toe nails like blue and purple?
We were too in the bird zone.
Next time!
Ok, picture-loversthese 2 runts are 22 days old now.. they love to sleep on their backs on my lap. They are not quite gold, but I cannot tell what other color they have... Or maybe the gold will come later? Maybe silver. I cannot tell if they are male or a female yet.
well i stayed up way past my bedtime and we watched the whole thing!! interesting but a bit unsettling......really sad that both the birds and the poor husband had to suffer for that woman to get a brand new house!! made me even a bit more worried about Friday......I know that my situation can in no way be construed as cruel, unsanitary, hoarding but there is so much subjectivity.....the woman on that documentary that took the birds was wearing shirt that said animals are friends not food etc......to me some of them could be considered just as “mentally unstable” as the hoarder!![]()
I only made it through half of the show before I crashed.
That poor lady needed serious help.
I will watch the rest this morning.
If you can get 20% protein Purina Flock Raiser, it will be better for your quail than Meat Bird feed. The problem with the meat bird feed is that while the protein levels are high enough, it does not have the higher levels of lysine, methionine and other nutrients that quail need. They use lower levels because it is a chicken feed and chickens don't need those higher levels.
The study that I looked up before pointed out that 20% protein is all that adult quail need as long as their other requirements such as lysine and methionine are being met. The Purina Flock Raiser does contain the higher levels of lysine and methionine that adult quail need.
I did a little digging last night and I think the quail only really need the high levels of everything for the first 3 weeks.
It's raining again here today so I will be staying home doing a lot of quail researching.
I will share my findings.
This line made me snort.
And it wasnt even that big! @el dorado quail
As far as the high level protein (28% to 30%), you are correct. The adults still need higher levels of lysine and methionine than is found in chicken feed but not as high as the levels found in a good game bird starter.
I have previously linked to the study on quail feed several times in this thread but am too lazy to look for it now. At least once was about the time that Nutty was trying to figure out what he was going to feed his quail.
I'll find it.
I usually bookmark the good read so I might have it bookmarked too.
I think this might be the post/link.
Maybe not.
For those of you that don't have this book yet....here:

Nope, that's the link to how much protein is in an egg.
I'm not awake yet.
I saw that as soon as I posted.
I am still digging.
It's got to be close to that time...back in March.
Let me go to the store and get that over with.
I'll be back to dig in a bit.
I added the link to post number one of this thread.
I am going to start doing that again...adding "good" stuff back to post one so we can find it easier.
If you are not yet on the list below please let me know and I will add you.
