I really think, now having gone thru it myself, that the ones that can't hatch on their own just aren't meant to be.![]()
I would never have any call ducks, and many of my seramas wouldn’t be here, if I thought that.

we helped both out around 11 pm. as i thought, the 1 was in the egg completely backwards! the 7 are doing great but the wrong pippers not so well. The 1 has really curled toes. we move 3 of the rowdiest to box and now have to move the other 6. not too optimistic that any more will hatch. as little as we opened the incubator this time and spritzing, adding water etc just seems too prone to shrink wrapping.

I think I pay 17-18 for Bryant Game Bird 28%.Found out the favorite feed store stocks Purina Game Bird & Turkey Startena 30% for $22/50 pounds. That will be convenient.
Should I keep the layer quail on the 30% or blend it down with the 18% chicken feed to 24% protein for layer rations? Assuming the little guys don't pick through it and eat the best tasting stuff. Hmm.

I feed my quail layer feed for a minute but switched right back to the game bird with a side of egg shells.
I even bought some oyster shell... Something I said I would never buy.![]()
I'm not against it I just never wanted to buy it. I don't like wasting money. I think it's a waste for some reason, especially since I have egg shells. This is the only stuff outside TSC that I've found. Still need to visit that other feed store.
Why are you against oyster shells?
The one that was zipping down the shell instead of around, hows it doing? I have had a couple that way, usually ended up with leg issues
To be honest, i can’t remember for sure which one was which. I gathered all of them up this morning and took them to the brooder willing to accept whatever fate decided. I went out as soon as we got home this afternoon and one of them is completely fine now integrated with the others. (They are driving poor gimpy crazy). The one is still alive but legs still pretty deformed and tiny. still looked a little goopy as well. (i really think it is the breech one that pipped first because it was a tiny egg compared to the other) I brought it back in and back in the incubator for a bit. I had all but given up hope on my other eggs because in my haste to take everyone out this morning, my humidity fell sometime today. when i put him in though 2 eggs still showed movement with possible peeping. so humidity stabilized, eggs spritzed and back to waiting on late hatchers!!The one that was zipping down the shell instead of around, hows it doing?
