Tonight’s quail dinner!!! Spatchcock whole quail skin-on braised in olive oil over simple potato hash with asparagus and wine raspberry sauce garnished with cherry tomatoes, and boiled quail eggs
If anyone is butchering soon, I highly recommend 24-48 hours brine using this mixture:
4c Apple cider
1/4 c each apple cider vinegar, dark brown sugar, kosher salt
Mouth is watering right now :drool

@R2elk....my poults are way too picky!! They will hardly eat anything other than mealworms!! They are constantly starving and while they are growing, they are not putting on weight like I think they should be!!!! Any suggestions on how to get them to eat balanced feed??? Currently using nutriena nature’s best meatbird crumble

Dh pulled the recipe off youtube and stole the brine recip from some bbq guys online then put his own spin on it....lmk if you want more details!

Yes please!! I need more details! I need to make it sometime. The potatoes and asparagus and everything look perfect too. Did you do anything special to them? What’s the sauce? I need more details! LOL

Is it possible to stop the mealworms? I would think if they had no other choice they would be forced to eat the food. But idk. Otherwise could you possibly wet it or mix something in it or anything? Obviously I don’t have turkeys so no experience there which is why you’re asking Elk but I am assuming no animal would be dumb enough to starve themselves so if they didn’t have a choice I would think they would eat the feed.

Otherwise maybe take it away a while and only bring it out once or twice a day? Maybe not having it available all the time would make it “special.”

But these are all just guesses since I don’t have turkeys. I’m sure Elk will probably have better suggestions.

@Texas Kiki is there a column in your spread sheet for number hatched or hatch rate or anything like that
No but there will be come January.
I didn't plan it good when I started it and I don't want to try to go back and redo it all so come January I'll have better stats/info.
