➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

@le_bwah hatch update???

@sarabeth485 any progress in late pippers?

Lockdown went into effect last night. 27 eggs, full and dark. I'm expecting them around Day 18 or 19, but it could be later—there were a few days there where the temperature dipped a whole degree or so.

Up to this point, we've had 4 empties and 2 early quitters—the empties were all much larger than average (poor fertility in the Myshire jumbo pens?) and the quitters were abnormally small. There are still some larger and smaller eggs in this hatch—can't wait to see what comes out!

We have a pip! :)

I'm not working tomorrow, which just about guarantees they won't all hatch by then :rolleyes:. I know it can take hours and hours from pip to zip, but I just wanna bang on the plastic like "hurry up!"
Usually from 1st pip till hatch is around 12 hours. Once they start zipping it's like an hour till their free of the shell.

In my experience with myshire eggs....most healthy hatches occur during the first 12-24 hours after I notice first pip! (And they seem to like hatching overnight when no one is watching!) :gig:pop:celebrate

Okay, so I had

I broke down and candled the last nine eggs last night. All were dark and one of the pipped eggs showed movement. Surprisingly one of the nonpipped did as well. This morning there is a tiny bit of progress on the pipped one.
Number 16 finally hatched about an hour ago. Has some curled toes but they’re looking a bit better already so I’m hoping it will self correct.
