Do your quail get any supplemental light?

And sorry about the Christmas chicks. Some just never want to go to bed it seems. :p

not really.....I was putting them in the little coop with the babies every night and I keep a solar light in there but I finally gave up on making them go to bed this last week. we made them a hideaway and they will go in there sometimes but mostly stay outside at night now.....

I think that the problem you are having is cold weather and short daylight periods. Adding some supplemental light would certainly help with the short daylight periods. If they are outside, plenty of birds are known to delay laying until the weather warms up. For example, I have a Cuckoo Marans hen that didn't lay her first egg until she was 9 months old. She should have come into laying around the start of winter, but refused to because of the cold weather. She held out until we got a 50F break. Good news is that once she started laying she kept laying. We get about 5 eggs a week from her now. I do provide supplemental lighting and their coop is built into our shed and stays warmer than outside temps.

Dollar store quail supplies.
I am going to try to make a feeder with each of the two containers.
I'm thinking I'll be back to buy more of the taller skinny containers. Less floor space used.

I think you can do it. Once you get your holes drilled in for there heads you can take a pipe to go inside. Cut some openings on the bottom of the pipe so feed flows out. Will extend the amount of feed you can put In.

I'm using old juice bottles, ice cream containers, potato salad boxes, etc. Why buy new?

Pro tip. If you cut the top off a bottle, turn it upside down in another bottle it becomes your "inside pipe" that holds more feed. I'm using the chick feeder now, but they are messy. I'm working on my prototype.

my chickens are giving me up to 8 eggs a day now with 1 green layer in the bunch! I’m thinking time of year may have delayed the quail. hoping for first egg soon with days getting longer. will keep checking.....just hope my chickens aren’t finding them first and eating them! hahaha
